Review of the Day
Contracts
Aboubakar Kamara and Kevin McDonald have signed new deals with Fulham. Kamara was looking like his Fulham career was over less than a year ago when he was arrested in January after a training ground clash with a team-mate and banned from the club before being loaned out to Turkish side Malatyaspor. He is not fully rehabilitated within the team and signed up until 2024. McDonald's new deal runs until 2021.
Transfers
Bristol City have recalled Jamie Paterson from his season-long loan deal with Derby County.
Injury Round-Up
Exeter City midfielder Jack Sparkes has been ruled out for the rest of the season with the knee injury he suffered on Boxing Day.
Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has been ruled out for up to a month with a knee injury.
King Passes Away
82 year old former striker Martyn King has passed away on Christmas Day. King is Colchester United's record goal scorer with 139 goals in 227 appearances between 1956 and 1964. He also jointly holds the records for most goals in a match and most hat-tricks for Colchester. King also played for Wrexham before his retirement from playing.
Rangers Call For VAR In Scotland
Scottish Premier Football League side Rangers have called on the SFA to introduce Video Assistant Referees to the SPFL. Rangers were angry after their win over bitter rivals Celtic and cited a number of decisions they believe were incorrect that have gone against them saying: "Rangers believes Scottish referees need additional help if match officials are to get more of the big decisions correct and the club is convinced VAR would provide that extra assistance. Rangers are aware of the financial argument against VAR but the cost to clubs which suffer from such game-changing decisions and the integrity of our game must also be given priority. At the very least, the SFA/SPFL must now seriously consider the introduction of the system at the earliest opportunity otherwise the Scottish game is in danger of being left behind."
Killie Choose Dyer
Kilmarnock have appointed interim head coach Alex Dyer as they manager until the end of the season. The 54 year old had been the assistant to Steve Clarke before Clarke left to manage Scotland, where Dyer continues to help him. Dyer has replaced Angelo Alessio, who was sacked after just 22 games in charge.
Norwich Fan Hit With 3 Year Ban
A Norwich City fan was arrested and then banned from Carrow Road for 3 years for throwing a mobile phone on to the pitch. It is believed the incident happened when Canaries striker Teemu Pukki had a goal ruled out for having an overly enlarged big toe, which happened to be a nanometer offside according to VAR. The fan was arrested at half-time and a Norwich statement read: "Norwich City continues to operate a strict zero-tolerance policy on unacceptable and discriminatory behaviour."
