Football News: Everton supporters should take a deep breath

Everton supporters should take a deep breath

I think Everton supporters all need to take a deep breath. Like most I was disgusted by the Cup display and I've had a pop about the players efforts but maybe we, and I, have gone a bit too far and there are other reasons other than a lack of commitment.

If we look at Gylfi Sigurdsson's (Siggy) stats through the season he will still be one of top performers in terms of running but he seems to have lost his pace so he is not getting as many tackles in and he can't play in a DM position with someone who also lacks pace - we simply get overrun.

Delph - unfortunately has been injured on or off ever since we bought him. He has probably been brought back too soon and has played through the pain for us - no wonder he might be upset when fans question his effort/ commitment if that is the case.

Tosun - I honestly don't think he is equipped for the Premiership but I'd never say he doesn't try, the same with Niasse. Triers but won't succeed.

Morgan Schneiderlin - I don't have any excuses for him. He has 1 or 2 OK games then goes missing for 4 or 5. I wouldn't play him but managers seem to go back to him and I don't know why.

Walcott - I believe he tries but again, whilst still fast, has lost that half yard of pace. Trouble is his mind hasn't adapted to this so his timing is off
Coleman / Baines - Fantastic servants of the club. They are coming to the end of stellar careers and deserve our appreciation, not criticism if the management feel they need to call on them.

On top of all this we have been hit with injuries to key or hopefully key players, limiting the selection choices of the manager, past and present

All of this has created a 'Perfect Storm', culminating in Sunday's performance and the fans reaction.

Players have always been paid far more than the average fan. TV rights have maybe acerbated this but I think it is wrong to say players don't care. Some don't but there has always been some that don't. Compared to the past there is not the drinking / refuelling culture of the past. Siggy and Antony Evans didn't get their dead ball technique by not practicing every day, just like Bobby Charlton and his left foot.

I don't want to comment too much on the fans protest at the ground as we don't know all the facts, for instance what pub they had been in beforehand, but I think Brands handled it well and hopefully this will be the end of it. We are The Peoples Club and we all need to get back to being one club with everyone, the directors, the management, the staff under them, the team and most importantly, us the supporters working as one.

Yes, we need to change some players. Yes we need to strengthen in some areas.

Yes, we need to show patience, apologise if I haven't always shown it.
