Danish side FC Nordsjaelland, which is owned by Ghana's Right to Dream Academy, has appointed midfield legend Michael Essien to their coaching staff as he works towards getting his coaching badges. The 37 year old former Real Madrid and Ghana midfielder said on social media: "I am delighted to have joined FC Nordsjaelland coaching staff as part of my development towards my full coaching licence. I will also be assisting the players on and off the pitch as part of my role." Essien has previously been gaining experience at another of his former clubs, Chelsea.

Disciplinary Charges

Leeds United have been fined £20,000 and warned about their future conduct for using pyrotechnics in their on-pitch celebration after winning promotion to the Premier League. It was a closed doors game, during the coronavirus lockdown, in July at Derby County's Pride Park that saw Leeds seal their return after 16 years away. The Football Association have ruled that their celebrations broke the rule on behaving "in an orderly fashion".

Its Sonny In Newport

After obtaining permission from his parents and headteacher, Newport County's Wales Under-15s international midfielder Sonny Lewis has become the League Two club's youngest ever player at the age of 15. The record was previously held by MK Dons' defender Regan Poole, who was later bought by Manchester United, who was 16 years and 94 days old when he made his debut in 2014 for the Exiles. Newport's manager Mike Flynn said: "I didn't tell him he was playing - I didn't want him thinking too much about it and worrying. He was a little bit late to the game, so we all thought that he had been in detention! It's exceptional for a 15-year-old to make their debut no matter what competition it is. He's a good kid, funnily enough he used to live by me when I first moved back to Newport. He was a little kid playing in the street, so now I definitely feel old! I thought that he grew into the game after the first 10 minutes and he was excellent. I am really pleased for him, he's got a lot of hard work to do to keep improving and make the step up, but I'm sure I can guide him in the right way and do all I can to help him."

Salford Change Focus

One of the co-owners' of Salford City, Phil Neville, has admitted that the club have given up on the dream of developing talent within the club and decided to focus on bringing players in from outside. Neville believes it is cheaper to buy talent than produce it with the competition for youngsters from local Premier League sides depriving them of the chance to get the most talented players. Neville said: "We were really passionate about it because we were given such opportunities when we were young. But the investment was huge and if you are in League One or League Two, getting the best 16-year-olds is almost impossible because they have gone to Premier League or Championship clubs. Our focus has shifted to the 18-to-21 age group. If you ask any of the lads involved at Salford, those are the critical years when you have to become a first-team player. That is when people make decisions about you, whether you are at an elite club or our level. We will still have young players coming to our club but the likelihood of us having a team of Salford born and bred players coming to us at 14 and staying until they are 18 is very slim. We feel if we can cherry pick the best 18-20-year-olds, working with the best youth coach in Warren Joyce, it gives us a better opportunity to get them into the first-team quicker. These kids aren't exposed to senior football often enough. We feel through the EFL Trophy and our own games programme, it will give the club even more chance to be."

Wigan Hopeful

Begbies Traynor, the administrators of Wigan Athletic, are hoping that the team will be able to the English Football League season despite not having a new owner yet. They had set a deadline of 31st August to sell the club, but that deadline has come and gone without a new owner yet in place but Begbies have confirmed they are in talks with a number of potential owners, including a fans' group which has raised over £640,000 in their attempt to save the club. Wigan have so far already been allowed to enter the EFL Trophy and League Cup and Begbies said: "We have kept the EFL informed of the progress of selling the club and we are quietly optimistic that permission will be given."
