Injury Round-Up

Plymouth Argyle have revealed that one player and a staff member have tested positive for Covid-19. The Devonians decided to give their players an extra round of tests after the team that knocked them out of the Carabao Cup on 15th September, Leyton Orient, reported a "number of players" had contract the virus. Teams in the English Football League are not required to do mandatory coronavirus tests.

Norwich City's new signing Kieran Dowell has been ruled out for 3 months with an ankle ligament injury received during a 2-2 draw with Preston North End. It was just his third appearance for the Canaries.

Leicester City will be without key midfielder Wiflred Ndidi for up to 3 months due to an abductor injury. Manager Brendan Rodgers said: "It is an abductor injury - it may have come off the bone which could be a nasty injury. We will wait to see if he needs an operation - if so it will be 12 weeks."

Managerial Changes

Former Ajax and Barcelona defender Frank de Boer has been appointed head coach of the Netherlands, replacing Ronald Koeman.

Disciplinary Charges

Rangers are disputing a charge against manager Steven Gerrard of "publicly criticising the match official". Rangers claim that Gerrard refused "on several occasions" to say that Ryan Edwards should have been sent off for his challenge on Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos despite "leading questions" from journalists. A Rangers statement read: "Whilst our national sport faces an unprecedented crisis, it is baffling that resources are used to charge Rangers' manager based on a flawed and inaccurate interpretation of Steven Gerrard's remarks."

West Bromwich Albion manager Slaven Bilic has been fined £8,000 after admitting a charge of improper conduct at half-time of his team's 5-2 defeat against Everton.

Reigning Asian Champions League champions Al Hilal have been booted out of this year's competition after they named a squad of just 11 players for their final group game against Shabab Al Ahli Dubai. Fifteen of their players were ruled out after testing positive for Covid-19. The Saudi Arabian side could name just 9 players in their starting line-up, along with 2 goalkeepers on the bench. The competition rules require a minimum of 13 players in a matchday squad. Al Hilal had only been able to name a squad of 14 players for their previous game, where a 0-0 draw saw them qualify for the knockout stage. Both the team and the Saudi Arabia Football Federation had requested the game was postponed but the AFC refused the request.

One of the five players sent off in Paris Saint-Germain's defeat to Olympique Marseille, former Manchester United winger Angel di Maria, has been banned for 4 matches. The PSG star was accused of spitting at Marseille's defender Alvaro Gonzalez.

County Cover Covid Tests

Ross County has agreed to cover the costs for Covid-19 tests for their Highland rivals Elgin City and Brora Rangers when they play in the Scottish League Cup. Lower league clubs do not need to test for the coronavirus except when they play cup matches against top-tier sides. County chairman Roy MacGregor said: "I just felt they are our neighbours, part of our Highland way of life, and I should reach out to them. We reached out to them and they were both very grateful for it. It is ironic that we play Elgin City, but it is still right that we do it. The challenges facing Ross County are the same as the challenges facing them, but we get television money that these clubs don't and we should try and share it at a time where we are all suffering."

Match Moved Due To Pub Curfew

The last two midweek Premier League games in September have had their kick-off time moved forward by 15 minutes to ensure they are both finished before the new UK pub curfew time. Fulham versus Aston Villa has been moved to a 5:45pm kick-off from 6pm and Liverpool against Arsenal has moved forward from 8pm to 7:45pm.

Wrexham have revealed that Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are interested in taking over the Welsh club, which has been fan owned since 2011. The takeover could see £2m invested in the club.
