Hughton Believes Forest Are Set For Promotion
Nottingham Forest's new manager Chris Hughton has told the BBC that he believes the team is set up for promotion back to the Premier League, despite losing all 4 games this season. Hughton said: "The starting position is very good. There are clubs that have reached the Premier League, and if I'm looking at facilities or quality of team, that might be less than we have here. I am fortunate to be managing a great club. It's a good squad and a team that fared very well last season and just missed out on the play-offs. The starting position is very good. It has been difficult start this season but there are lots of factors. The squad has been added to, so certainly there can't be any complaints with regard the ownership not wanting to improve the team. Others have tried, and it hasn't happened, but at some stage this club will be in the Premier League. I am here to help that process. Ultimately this club, the size of it with their ambitions, have to reach the Premier League. The most important thing is now is to start picking up points and get a bit of confidence in the team. It can happen - that the effects of last season have carried on to this season. My initial job is to change that and then go from there. Promotion has to be the goal of this club and my process starts here. Everything with the players is about positivity. You cannot afford to be any other way. I have a good squad and a big squad."
Ireland Add To Squad
The Republic of Ireland have called up Preston North End's Sean Maguire and Wycombe Wanderers winger Daryl Horgan for the Nations League games against Wales and Finland. The pair replace Brighton & Hove Albion striker Aaron Connolly and Norwich City's Adam Idah, who were ruled to be in close contact with a backroom staff member who tested positive.
Suarez Claims Barca Made Him Cry
Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez's departure from Barcelona to sign for Atletico Madrid caused problems with Barca's star man Lionel Messi. Messi complained that the Catalans had treated Suarez badly, now Suarez has revealed that the treatment he received made him cry as he was blocked from training with the first team. Suarez said: "Those days were very difficult. I cried because of what I was having to go through. I was hurt most of all by the way they did things, because one has to accept it when a cycle comes to an end. I didn't take the club's message that they were looking for a solution for me in order to mix things up very well. Not everyone knows what happened but the worst thing was going to training and being sent to a different group from everyone else because I was not allowed to play in practice matches. My wife could see how unhappy I was and she wanted to see me smile again and when the chance came to join Atletico I had no doubts. I wasn't surprised that Messi supported me publicly because I know him too well. He knew the pain I was going through, the feeling that I was being kicked out was what hurt me the most. The way they did things was not right and Leo knows how me and my family suffered."
Pogba Wants Madrid Move
Paul Pogba has admitted that he dreams of playing for Real Madrid one day. The 27 year old France international re-joined Manchester United from Juventus for £89m in 2016. Pogba said: "All football players would love to play for Real Madrid. It is a dream for me, why not one day? I am in Manchester and I love my club. I am playing in Manchester, I'm having fun and I want to do everything to put the club where it deserves. I will give everything to the max, like my team-mates."
