Dons' Test Event Cancelled
A planned test event of Scottish fans watching live football in a stadium has been cancelled. Aberdeen had wanted to have 1,000 supporters in their Pittodrie ground for Sunday's match against Celtic but the proposal has been rejected. Last month they were able to hold a test event, one of two clubs to do so, but the Scottish government then put a block on more tests due to a rise in positive cases in Scotland.
Dave Criticises Chelsea Defending
Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has called the club's defensive performances 'weak' and that the team needs to "score three or four each game". Azpilicueta said: "When you're weak defensively sometimes we feel like we have to score three or four each game. I see football as a collective. When we don't score, as a defender I think how can we put our attacking players in better situations. Through a season you are not going to be winning 3-0 or 4-0 every week. You have to work to get results and at the moment we have to improve that."
Toon Protest Raises £20k For Charity
Newcastle United fans have been protesting against the controversial plan to show Premier League games via pay-per-view television in the UK by donating the £14.95 fee to charity instead of paying for the match. The campaign called 'Charity Not PPV' raised £20,000 for a Newcastle food bank. The food bank's chief executive John McCorry said: "We so appreciate the generosity of the Newcastle fans. We are feeding 1,000 people a week and use 10-plus tonnes of food every month, which costs £1,700 a tonne, so these donations are really needed. We have had donations from London, Spain and America, so it's not just locally that the interest has gathered. It really seems to have taken off." Fans of Leeds United and Manchester City have followed the idea to raise money for food banks in their cities.
