Review of the Day
Contracts
Bayern Munich have withdrawn from contract negotiations with Austrian defender David Alaba. His current contract expires in the summer.
Transfers
Free agent former Watford striker Michael Folivi has signed for League Two's Colchester United on a deal until the end of the season.
Stewart Downing has re-signed for Blackburn Rovers just a few months after leaving the club at the end of last season.
Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has returned to play in Ghana with Legon Cities on a 1-year deal.
Following his release by Sheffield United in the summer, experienced winger Ricky Holmes has returned to Northampton Town on an "appearance-related" short-term contract. Holmes had been training with the Cobblers for a few weeks.
Jimmy Floyd's nephew Nigel Hasselbaink has signed for Israeli side Bnei Sakhnin. The 29 year old striker had been a free agent.
Major League Soccer club Real Salt Lake have released American forward Sam Johnson.
Injury Round-Up
Southampton are hopeful that Danny Ings' knee injury is not as bad as they feared following the former Liverpool and Burnley striker having a scan. After the match, Saints' manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said it did not "look good" but now the club have stated that "the initial results are favourable".
Pep Guardiola has said that he expects his Argentine striker Sergio Aguero to be back to full fitness after the forthcoming international break. The 32 year old Manchester City striker suffered a hamstring strain which has kept him out of the last two matches.
Real Madrid defender Eder Militao is now in self-isolation after testing CV positive.
Managerial Changes
As expected, Mick McCarthy has taken charge of Cypriot champions Apoel, signing a contract which runs until May 2022. McCarthy has been out of work since leaving the Republic of Ireland in April and has taken his long-standing assistant Terry Connor with him to Cyprus.
Just 39 days after appointing Jess Thorup, KRC Genk are on the hunt for a new head coach after FC Copenhagen paid his release clause to take him to his home nation Denmark. Copenhagen paid the 550,000 euro required to release Thorup who is replacing former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Stale Solbakken.
Disciplinary Charges
Rangers have suspended Jordan Jones and George Edmundson for "breaching Covid regulations". The pair attended a party on Sunday "with others outside their household" and now face investigation by both the club and the SPFL, as well as 14 days of self-isolation. Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson said: "We are completely aligned in our action and the standards that are being set at Rangers. We will not tolerate behaviour that does not follow those standards and it is totally unacceptable for any of our players to be involved in anything that puts at risk the excellent protocols that have been put in place at Rangers."
Pickford To Return
Jordan Pickford may have been dropped for Everton's Premier League game against Newcastle United, but manager Carlo Ancelotti says the flapper will be back for the next game in the league, when the Toffees face Manchester United. Ancelotti said: "In my career, I am used to rotating the goalkeepers. It happened at Real Madrid, it happened also at Napoli. It will not be the last time, of course."
FA Cup To Continue
All 40 of the FA Cup first round ties are to be played despite England going into lockdown. There were fears that the 10 teams who were not covered under the 'elite sports' protocols might not have been able to take part but the government have confirmed that they will be covered under the elite protocols for the time they are participating in the FA Cup.
