Disciplinary Charges
St Mirren are under investigation by Scottish police for "possible financial irregularities". The Scottish Premiership club, which is fan-owned, were made aware of "several historic issues" after their annual audit was completed. The club then contacted the relevant authorities and said that the club "will co-operate fully in all aspects of the process and with all relevant authorities". They have also appointed accountants to carry out a forensic review of its operations.
Carlisle United's director of football David Holdsworth has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association. The 52 year old is alleged to have "used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official".
St Mirren and Kilmarnock have been handed a 3-0 defeat and £40,000 fine for CV breaches. Motherwell have benefitted with two 3-0 SPFL wins and Hamilton Academical one after their games against the two disciplined clubs were called off. A club statement from Caykur Rizespor read: "We have learned with sadness the news of the death of our former football player Mohamed Abarhoun, who has been receiving treatment for a while. We wish Allah's mercy to Mohamed Abarhoun, who passed away, and our condolences to his family, relatives and community."
Man City Furious With Porto
Manchester City are angry with Champions League opponents Porto, who sent out a newsletter which made a number of allegations after the two teams played out a 0-0 draw on Tuesday evening. Following on from Porto's head coach Sergio Conceicao saying that he "would be sad" if he had Pep Guardiola's budget and could not win, the newsletter criticised Guardiola for using "ugly words" when the two managers had a touchline spat during the match. The newsletter also claimed that Porto were denied a clear penalty for a foul by Ederson and that "there should have been a red card given to Fernandinho, who despite being 35 is a clear example that football money counts a lot, but it doesn't buy class." It described Bernardo Silva as being "known internationally for having been convicted of racism", referring to his tweet comparing teammate Benjamin Mendy to the character on a packet of Conguitos. Silva was given a 1 match ban and £50,000 fine for that tweet but an FA commission decided that he "did not intend" it to be "racist". A Man City spokesperson said: "This is not the first time that Porto have reacted badly in circumstances like this. On this occasion it is the ill-judged and targeted criticism of some of our individual players and indeed our manager, which we wholly reject. In 2012, the last season we encountered them, it was the denial by the club of clear racist behaviour of their fans for which they were investigated and fined. In this context, this latest outburst is almost as surprising as it is disappointing."
EFL And Prem Agree Rescue Package
A £250m rescue package has been agreed between the English Premier League and the English Football League. League One and Two clubs will share a £50m grant, while the Championship will be assisted by a £200m interest-free loan. Championship clubs will each be able to borrow up to £8.33m, which must be repaid by June 2024. League One clubs will receive a minimum payment of £375,000 and League Two clubs a minimum of £250,000, as the remaining £15m will be distributed based on a lost gate revenue share calculation.
Neymar Wants To Be Messi's Teammate Again
With Barcelona's interim president Carlos Tusquets saying that they should have sold Lionel Messi in the summer, Neymar has now said he wants to play alongside Messi next season. Tusquets told RAC1 radio station: "Economically speaking, I would've sold Messi in the summer window. Both in terms of what you save on the wage bill as well as the money you make, it would've been desirable. But this is something the coaching staff have to consent to and that's not my place." Paris Saint-Germain's Brazilian star Neymar then told ESPN: "What I want most of all is to play with Messi again, to be able to enjoy him once again on the pitch. He can play in my place, I have no problem with that! But I want to play with him next year, for sure. We have to do it next season." Looks like we will now have a few months more rumours of Neymar returning to Barca or Messi moving to PSG!
