Review of the Day
Contracts
Tim Krul has signed a new deal with Norwich City. The Dutch international goalkeeper is now contracted until 2024.
Transfers
Southend United have signed former Barnsley winger Louis Walsh on an 18-month deal.
Club Brugge have confirmed that they have reached an agreement in principle to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Bas Dost. The Dutch forward has agreed a deal until summer 2022 on condition he passes a medical.
Borussia Dortmund's CEO Hans Joachim Watzke has ruled out the club making any signings in the January transfer window due to the financial impact of CV.
Injury Round-Up
Sunderland have postponed a fourth match in a row, this time Tuesday's versus Accrington Stanley on Tuesday, due to their CV outbreak.
Arsenal's Brazilian defender Gabriel is out of their next two matches as he self-isolates following close contact with a CV-infected person. The 23 year old already missed the Chelsea victory due to the isolation period, and will also miss their league games against Brighton & Hove Albion and West Bromwich Albion.
Managerial Changes
Schalke 04 have appointed former Tottenham Hotspur manager Christian Gross as their 4th coach of the season.
Brazilian physio Bruno Mazzioti has left Paris Saint-Germain to join the backroom staff at Arsenal.
Nantes have appointed former France manager Raymond Domenech as their new boss. Domenech has not managed since the fiasco in the World Cup in South Africa, as a players' revolt ousted him. Domenech had sent home Nicolas Anelka following a half-time falling out during France's 3-0 defeat to Mexico. The squad went on strike and boycotted training in solidarity with Anelka, which led to Domenech dropping senior figures such as Thierry Henry and team captain Patrice Evra. They went out of the World cup bottom of their group, behind South Africa, Mexico and Uruguay and the repercussions were such that Domenech has taken 10 years to return to football management!
Disciplinary Charges
The 3-0 SPFL victories awarded after St Mirren and Kilmarnock admitted CV regulation breaches have been suspended after the two clubs appealed against the judgement.
Dundee United Legend Passes Away
Dundee United's legendary former manager Jim McLean has died aged 83. During his time in charge of United his team battled Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen at the top of the league, breaking the duopoly usually enjoyed by the Old Firm of Celtic and Rangers to such a point that they were nicknamed the 'New Firm'. Winning the Scottish Premiership in 1983 was followed by runs to both the European Cup semi-finals and the UEFA Cup final in the 1980s.
Neymar Under Fire In Brazil
Brazil have been one of the hardest hit nations by the current pandemic, but that has not stopped Neymar Jr from organising a weekend-long party for 500 people while home for the Christmas holidays. With a death toll in the South American country nearing 200,000, Neymar has faced a backlash as details emerged about the party held at Mangaratiba in Rio de Janeiro. Amazing he felt up to partying considering the pain he showed when taken off on a stretcher during the game against Olympique Lyonnais, when his exaggerated reactions made it look like every bone in his body had been broken slowly one-by-one in order to maximise his pain. Though it did turn out to only be a twisted ankle and not actually a serious injury.
