Football News: Ally McCoist tenders resignation as Rangers manager

Widespread reports today are reporting that Rangers manager has tendered his resignation to the board of the troubled Ibrox club.

No official statement has been made by the Rangers board, most of whom are believed to be in meetings in London and will not attend tonights match at Queen of the South.

McCoist has come in for criticism in recent weeks from large sections of the Rangers support following defeats at Hearts and Alloa Athletic which seen Rangers slip 9 points behind the Tynecastle side and knocked out of the Challenge Cup respectively, the latter after leading 2-0 going into the final 20 minutes.

Whether his resignation is accepted or not has yet to be seen with Rangers financial problems being well documented, however even at this early stage Terry Butcher has been installed as bookmakers early front runner having cooled his interest in returning to former club Motherwell this week.
