Review of the Day
Contracts
Manchester United 'wunderkind' Shola Shoretire has signed his first professional contract. Shoretire is the youngest ever to represent Man Utd in the UEFA Youth League when he debuted aged just 14.
Real Sociedad teenager Ander Barrenetxea has signed a deal which runs until 2027.
Transfers
Free agent defender Aaron Lewis has signed for Newport County.
Major League Soccer's CF Montreal have signed Bjorn Johnsen from Ulsan Hyundai.
Free agent midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah has joined Cagliari.
Danubio have sold young winger Rodrigo Pineiro to MLS team Nashville SC for £1.39m.
Portland Timbers have taken Josecarlos van Rankin on loan from Chivas.
Orlando City have added Jonathan Suarez to their ranks on loan from Queretaro.
Sporting Kansas City have added French defender Nicolas Isimat-Mirin to their roster on a free transfer from Besiktas.
Injury Round-Up
Former Chelsea winger Paul Canoville is critically ill in hospital following emergency surgery. Canoville was Chelsea's first ever black player and now runs his own foundation and is a prominent anti-racism campaigner. The 58-year-old has already recovered from cancer three times.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is expecting Harry Kane to be back in contention for his team next week.
Eden Hazard is again ruled out of Real Madrid's team with an injury. The 30 year old Belgian international with a Burger King addiction has been ruled out for at least two week with a muscle injury in the rectus femoris of his left leg. Samuel Eto'o had publicly warned Hazard back in 2014 that he would suffer for his lack of effort in training, comparing Hazard to Ronaldinho.
Atletico Madrid striker Joao Felix has become the latest footballer to go into self-isolation following a positive CV test. He joins fellow Atleti players Mario Hermoso and Yannick Carrasco, who went into isolation a week ago.
Managerial Changes
Just six months after taking over from Eddie Howe, Bournemouth manager Jason Tindall has been sacked by the Cherries. Despite only joining the club on Monday, Jonathan Woodgate has been placed in caretaker charge.
French former Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City striker Nicolas Anelka has become sporting director of French 4th-tier side Hyeres. Hyeres have been bought by the same French businessman who transformed Toulon's rugby club from a second-division outfit into a multiple European champion.
Disciplinary Charges
£100,000 of player fines have been donated to North Middlesex University Hospital by Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said: "We can think of no better cause to donate these funds to than North Mid's 'Thank You' initiative for staff. NHS staff across the country continue to make sacrifices and put themselves at risk every day to save lives and we hope this contribution will go some way towards providing the recognition that these heroes deserve."
AS Roma have stripped striker Edin Dzeko of the captain's armband and left him out of the squad due to a row with head coach Paulo Fonseca. Lorenzo Pellegrini has been announced as the new club captain by Roma's general manager Tiago Pinto: "Edin is a strong footballer, a great professional with great experience and personality and Fonseca is the leader of our project, he's done a great job and he is the right person to build the future of the club. Over the last few days, we've had meetings together in order to strengthen mutual trust. We came out happy and confident, now we must focus on the collective good which is more important than the interest of individuals. I am convinced a club must be based on rules, right now Edin is not the captain, but we are working for the club's good and Dzeko will be the first one to work for this."
Saints Want Ref Bans
Southampton have put in an official request to the Premier League asking that Mike Dean and Lee Mason do not officiate their games again. The pair were involved in Tuesday night's 9-0 defeat at Old Trafford against Manchester United, where Dean awarded Man Utd a penalty and sent off Jan Bednarek after looking at an incident involving Anthony Martial on the VAR review screen at the pitchside. Bednarek was adjudged to have brought down Martial by Dean even with the benefit of the replays.
Ajax Forget To Register Haller
Ajax's January transfer window signing from West Ham United, Sebastien Haller is not registered for their Europa League fixture against LOSC Lille. An Ajax spokesperson said: "He is indeed not on the list; we are trying to find out what went wrong, We have contacted the KNVB and UEFA but have no definite answer yet." If the fault lies with the governing bodies, then Haller, who is Ajax's club record signing, could yet be added to the list and be available to face the French side.
