Managerial Changes
Disciplinary Charges
Southend United manager Mark Molesley has revealed that the League Two club had been "assured" by Jacob Mellis that his criminal charges "had been dealt with". Instead the 30 year old midfielder is in court next month facing charges of affray, assault and causing grievous bodily harm. Molesley said: "The news was a little bit new to us, we were aware of something in the background. We didn't feel that what he'd been sanctioned with before was not worth playing football. With the information we had, we felt it was a good signing for us. From what we have been told and the situation, we thought he was fit and available and no future problems should be coming."
Celtic forward Albian Ajeti is facing a ban for an "act of simulation". The Croatian is accused of diving to win a penalty in the Bhoys 4-0 win over struggling Kilmarnock. Ajeti faces a 2-match ban if found guilty.
Arsenal have lost their appeal against David Luiz's red card in their 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Southampton centre-back Jan Bendarek has won his appeal against a red card that was shown him during Saints' 9-0 humbling at the hands of Manchester United.
EFL Trophy Double
Wembley will be hosting two EFL Trophy finals in two days this March. The 2020 final between Portsmouth (who are the current holders) and Salford City, which was delayed due to the pandemic, is to take place on 13th March. The day after will see this year's final played.
Liverpool Denied Entry
Liverpool have been refused permission to travel to Germany for their Champions League tie with RB Leipzig. Germany's federal police will not allow any exceptions for professional athletes. A statement explained: "The Corona Protection Order agreed by the federal government last Friday envisions only a few exceptions and no special arrangement for professional athletes. The federal police has told the RB Leipzig club today that the circumstances of the given case do not meet the requirements for an exemption."
