Injury Round-Up

Managerial Changes

Bristol City's assistant manager Paul Simpson is taking a break from the role while he has treatment for cancer. Simpson, who was in charge when England won the 2017 Under-20 World Cup, has a form of kidney cancer.

Jim Jefferies has left Heart of Midlothian. The 70-year-old was acting as an advisor to the club's board while they searched for a new chief executive and sporting director.

Arsenal playing legend Patrick Vieira has been appointed as Crystal Palace's replacement for Roy Hodgson.

Cheltenham Town chairman Andy Wilcox has stood down from the role to concentrate on his business activities.

Disciplinary Charges

Swindon Town are facing legal action as they have failed to pay rent for their County Ground home for the last year. Swindon Borough Council, who own the ground, said in a statement: "We set the club a final deadline to respond with an offer to clear the arrears but, when this was missed, we had no choice but to start the necessary legal action for payment of the debt." Swindon are currently locked in a court battle over the club's ownership, with a court injunction stopping current owner Lee Power from putting the club into administration as minority owner Clem Morfuni, with the backing of the club's supporters' trust tries to buy the club from him. Power is also facing FA charges, along with Gareth Barry's agent Michael Standing, as agents are not allowed to own clubs. Standing has said publicly that he bought 50% of the club's holding company (with the help of his client Barry) when Power bought Swindon. The club has also failed to pay players' wages on time as it continues to haemorrhage money and the start of their pre-season training has been delayed until Monday.

Derby County have once again got away with their financial doping and outright cheating after the Football League decided not to appeal against the decision to just fine them £100,000 for their latest attempt to breach the league's financial fair play regulations. It is the latest in a long list of breaches by the East Midlands club that led to Wycombe Wanderers' owner Rob Couhig to correctly accuse them of "systematic cheating" and "years upon years of violating the rules".

Rangers striker Christopher McKee has been given a four-game ban after being found guilty of using homophobic language which led to his dismissal while playing for Brechin City on loan last season.

Hearts Retire Zaliukas Shirt

Heart of Midlothian have retired the number 26 shirt in honour of their former captain, Lithuanian international Marius Zaliukas, who died in October aged just 36. Zaliukas played 222 games for Hearts in his 6 years with the club and was suffering from Motor Neurone Disease. The front of Hearts kit will also bear the logo of the charity MND Scotland for the next two years.
