Bolton Wanderers have complained to the police about racist social media abuse aimed at their striker Elias Kachunga.
Former Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng, now with Olympique Lyonnais, has been found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and been ordered to pay a £1.5m fine. He escaped a possible punishment of up to 5 years in jail under German law. Boateng was found guilty of punching her, pulling her hair, biting her on the head and insulting her during an altercation over a game of cards.
Pele has said on social media that he is "recovering well" after his surgery to remove a tumour from his colon.
Rooney Makes TV Whinge
Derby County manager Wayne Rooney is upset that his team is to play tonight, straight after the international break, as one (yes just one you did read that right) player will not be available for selection. Derby winger Kamil Jozwiak played for Poland against England on Wednesday in a World Cup qualifier and so is not being considered for inclusion in the team. Rooney said: "I get it, the game's on TV, but I don't see why it couldn't have been 24 hours later on TV. I know he's young, but he's played the majority of the games for us and to not have him available for selection because our fixture gets put on a Friday night is frustrating as a manager. I have dealt with a lot in the last few months and this is just something else to deal with. Sometimes you can push a player a bit further than he really should go, but I always have to be careful. If I push players and they do get injuries, I have very good young players who need a bit of time to get ready for this league and I'd have to rely on them, but it's not fair on them to throw them in before they are ready. I don't think there should be games on a Friday (after an international break) - and it's the same for any of the teams in the Championship who've got international players away."
Germans Forced Down At Edinburgh
The German national team were forced to make an emergency landing at Edinburgh on their way home from a 4-0 thrashing they handed out to Iceland. The team were then forced to spend 5 hours sat on a runway. There were problems with "unreliable functionality" of the back up power generator, which saw the flight forced to take the unscheduled stop. After a "precautionary safety inspection" a replacement aircraft was brought in to take the players home.
Japan Drop Out
A new host will have to be found for December's FIFA Club World Cup after Japan dropped out due to the restrictions placed on it during the pandemic. Japan did manage to host both the Olympic and Paralympic games during the summer, but is now under a state of emergency with every tightening restrictions.
