Transfers

Former Hull City and Sunderland forward Jozy Altidore has moved across the MLS from Toronto to New England Patriots on a free transfer.

Leaving Major League Soccer is Croatian defender Roberto Puncec who is leaving Sporting Kansas City to join Botev Plovdiv on a free transfer.

Manchester United's interim head coach Ralf Rangnick has revealed that he wanted to work with Jadon Sancho earlier in his career. The German said that he tried to convince a then 17-year-old Sancho to join RB Leipzig rather than Borussia Dortmund when he left Manchester City.

Injury Round-Up

Newcastle United's January signing Kieran Trippier is set for a spell on the sidelines after scans revealed he broke his foot in the win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

Isaac Vassell's long-awaited return to fitness, the Cardiff City striker has not played since August 2019 due to injury problems, has been put on hold. The 28-year-old returned to first-team training last week only to suffer a setback which is likely to rule him out for the rest of the season. With his contract up at the end of the season it may signal the end of his time with the Bluebirds.

Plymouth Argyle defender Dan Scarr has been ruled out for around 6 weeks with a torn hamstring.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema will have a late fitness test ahead of the Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain. PSG's former Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has been ruled out already with the calf injury that has kept him out recently.

Bayern Munich's full-back Alphonso Davies is closing on a return to playing following heart problems after catching CV. Bayern's head coach Julian Nagelsmann said: "He's happily well on the road to recovery. It's still going to take a while. But the dangerous parts considering his heart are certainly gone. He has another appointment in two weeks. The best-case scenario seemed to have happened in terms of the healing process."

Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo is struggling with a recurrence of a right calf injury that had been hampering him recently.

Managerial Changes

Disciplinary Charges

Four Argentinian internationals have been banned by FIFA over the farcical scenes in September when a World Cup qualifier against Brazil was abandoned for not following international match protocols. The game kicked off before Brazilian authorities entered the pitch after just 5 minutes to halt the match as it was believed the quartet had broken quarantine rules. The four were based in England and were required to quarantine for 14 days before arriving in Brazil and then a further 14 after reaching Brazil. Aston Villa duo Emiliano Buendia and Emiliano Martinez and Tottenham Hotspur's Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso now have 2 match bans. Lo Celso is currently on loan at Villareal.

Bayern Munich and Germany star Thomas Muller, and his wife Lisa, have been accused of animal cruelty by PETA. The animal rights group have claimed that the duo have their animals performing "unnatural sex acts" in order to obtain semen, which they sell frozen for around £170 per portion. The allegations have emerged after their horse D'Avie suffered an injury ahead of breeding season.

Thorgan Hazard was dropped from Borussia Dortmund's squad for their trip to Union Berlin, with head coach Marco Rose denying the Belgian forward has picked up an injury.

Coventry Stadium Battle Ends

Coventry City have called an end to their legal proceedings against the sale of their former and now current stadium to rugby side Wasps after holding talks with the University of Warwick over land to build a new stadium on. Coventry had claimed that the city council had undervalued the ground by £27m when it was sold to Wasps in 2014.
