Veteran Portugese midfielder Joao Moutinho has extended his deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers for another season.

Another veteran to sign on for another season with his current club is Aston Villa's former Manchester United utility bench filler Ashley Young.

39-year-old striker Fabio Quagliarella has signed on for next season with Sampdoria.

Cadiz goalkeeper David Gil has signed a 3-year deal.

Udinese's North Macedonian forward Ilija Nestorovski has signed a 1-year deal with option for a further year.

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alexandre Letellier has signed a 2-year contract.

A three-year deal with an option for a further year has been agreed by Daniel Grimshaw with Blackpool.

Alex Remiro has extended his contract with Real Sociedad.

Transfers

Christian Eriksen has agreed a deal in principle to sign for Manchester United after his contract with Brentford ended.

Barcelona have completed the free transfer signings of Franck Kessie from AC Milan and Andreas Christiansen from Chelsea.

Tommy Doyle has joined Sheffield United on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City.

Also moving on loan to the Championship from the Premier League is Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell, who has joined Millwall for the season.

Preston North End have signed Ben Woodburn following his release from Liverpool and also added Robbie Brady on a free transfer from Bournemouth.

After being released by Sheffield United Luke Freeman has signed for Luton Town.

Chelsea goalkeeper Nathan Baxter has returned to Hull City for another season long loan.

MK Dons have signed Darragh Burns from St Patrick's Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

Veteran midfielder Shaun Whalley has returned to Accrington Stanley on a free transfer from Shrewsbury Town.

Wycombe Wanderers have signed young forward D'Mani Mellor after the 21-year-old was released by Manchester United.

Bristol City have loaned Taylor Moore to Shrewsbury Town for the season.

Dan Nlundulu has returned on loan to Cheltenham Town. The Southampton forward is there until January.

Hartlepool United have signed Brody Patterson from Celtic.

Liverpool youngster Vitezslav Jaros has joined Stockport County on a season-long loan deal. Leaving Stockport on loan for the season is Ben Barclay, who will be playing for Carlisle United next season.

Wales' most capped player, Chris Gunter, has signed for AFC Wimbledon following his release from Charlton Athletic.

Barrow have cancelled Luke James' contract by mutual consent and the forward is now a free agent.

Hungarian club Zalaegerszegi have paid an undisclosed fee to AFC Wimbledon for Dan Csoka.

AS Roma have signed Zeki Celik from LOSC Lille.

Veteran midfielder Tomas Rincon has signed for Sampdoria on a free transfer from Torino.

SC Freiburg have paid £7.65m for Japanese winger Ritsu Doan from PSV Eindhoven.

US Orleans have signed Ousseynou Ndiaye from Olympique Lyonnais on a free transfer.

KVC Westerlo of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League have spent £82,000 to sign teenage US winger Griffin Yow from Major League Soccer's DC United.

Sassuolo have loaned Stefano Turati, Luca Moro and Riccardo Ciervo to Frosinone.

Fiorentina have spent £7.38m on Juventus midfielder Rolando Mandragora. Also leaving Juve is Italian winger Luca Zanimacchia, who is joining Cremonese on loan.

Inter Milan have loaned young forward Martin Satriano to Empoli.

UD Almeria goalkeeper Giorgi Makaridze has signed for Ponferradina on a free transfer.

Cadiz have released Varazdat Haroyan.

Malaga have signed Aleix Febas on a free transfer from RCD Mallorca.

Fehervar have taken Peter Pokorny on loan from Real Sociedad.

Real Betis have signed Luiz Felipe on a free transfer from Lazio.

Portsmouth have paid an undisclosed fee to sign Zak Swanson from Arsenal.

Stade Brestois 1929 have signed Karamoko Dembele from Celtic. Also leaving the Bhoys is Barry Coffey who has signed for Cork City on a permanent deal, following a loan spell there last season.

Rangers have signed 16-year-old Zak Lovelace from Millwall, despite the offer of regular first team football in London. A 16-year-old has also left Rangers, as Rory Wilson has moved to join Aston Villa.

Sevilla's sporting director Monchi has told Onda Cero that there has been "zero contact" with Barcelona about the Andalusian club's centre-back Jules Kounde, but there has been interest in him "from England and other countries".

Cremonese sporting director Simone Giachetti has told a press conference that a deal is agreed with Inter Milan and Andrei Radu to take the goalkeeper on loan for the season.

Injury Round Up

Leeds United's Welsh international forward Daniel James believes players are going to be worried about missing the World Cup mid-season through injury.

Juventus attacker Federico Chiesa is back in training ahead of the new season after missing the second half of the previous one through injury. Chiesa is not expected to be ready to play again until September.

Former Liverpool striker Divock Origi is training on his own at new club AC Milan as he has not yet fully recovered from the injury which kept him out of the end of the season. Milan are aiming to have him ready to face Koln later this month in a friendly.



Job Changes

Everton's assistant coach Duncan Ferguson has left the club as he looks to step up to a role of head coach. The Scot has been in caretaker charge of the Toffees twice, but was overlooked for the permanent position on both occasions.

Kilmarnock's head of football operation James Fowler has taken voluntary redundancy after a club "restructure".

Paris Saint-Germain have finally officially sacked Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the appointment of Christophe Galtier to replace him. The statement was brief and not exactly effusive in its thanks for the Argentine: "Paris Saint-Germain confirm that Mauricio Pochettino has ended his role at the club. The Argentine coach and his team joined the club in January 2021. A former captain of the Rouge & Bleus, Pochettino took charge of 84 competitive games. Under his tenure, Paris Saint-Germain won the 2020 Trophée des Champions and the 2020/21 Coupe de France, as well as the club's historic 10th Ligue 1 title last April. The club would like to thank Mauricio Pochettino and his staff for their work and wish them the best for the future."

Olympique Marseille have appointed Igor Tudor, the former Juventus defender, as their new head coach to replace Jorge Sampaoli. The Croat has previous management experience with Hajduk Split, Galatasaray, Udinese and Hellas Verona amongst his jobs. Marseille owner Frank McCourt stated: "I think we have found what we need in Igor Tudor, and I am happy to welcome him to our club. Igor is a fighting man, as he has demonstrated throughout his career, both as a coach and as a player. I am convinced he will feel at home in Marseille. His coaching experience at Galatasaray and PAOK, as well as Juventus as a player, prepared him for the level of passion that defines and unites our club and his city. But above all, as he recently proved at Hellas Verona, Igor is a true leader who offers a bold vision of football, who does not shy away from any challenge and who is determined to pursue excellence."

Disciplinary Charges

A 29-year-old Premier League footballer, who is a full international, has been arrested in north London on suspicion of rape. A Met Police statement read: "On 4 July, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to police. It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022. On 4 July, a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody where he remains. Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing."

Fans of Mainz 05 have asked the Bundesliga side to cancel their planned friendly with Newcastle United. A statement from the fans read: "Newcastle United is not just a football club, but a vehicle for asserting the interests of a regime that tramples on human rights and whose policies are diametrically opposed to the values and mission statement of Mainz 05. At a time when authoritarian states, large corporations or billionaires are taking over international football in order to assert their interests, it is no longer possible to separate football and politics."

New Tottenham Hotspur signing Richarlison will miss the opening game of the new Premier League season due to the flare incident while at Everton last season. The Brazilian forward picked up a flare and threw it into an empty section of the ground but has been given a 1 game ban and £25,000 fine by an independent commission after admitting improper behaviour.

Standing To Return

English Premier League and Championship clubs will be allowed to introduce standing areas in their stadiums from the start of the season. Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries said: "Thanks to a robust trial, thorough evidence and modern engineering, we are now ready to allow standing once again in our grounds. We are not reintroducing terraces and only clubs which meet strict safety criteria will be permitted." Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Cardiff City took part in a pilot study last season to assess the viability of a return of standing areas, with Brentford, Queens Park Rangers and Wolverhampton Wanderers already signed up for this coming season.

City Group Reaches 11 Clubs

Manchester City's ownership group, The City Football Group, has bought their 11th club in the shape of Italian Serie B side Palermo. Palermo have won two promotions in the last three seasons after being dropped to the fourth tier due to bankruptcy. They are now owned by a group that also owns, as well as Man City, New York City, Melbourne City, Yokohama F Marinos, Montevideo City Torque, Girona, Sichuan Jiuniu, Mumbai City, Lommel SK and Troyes. The group's chief executive Ferran Soriano said: "Palermo is a great and historic club with a strong and proud identity. This is a very special club, and our role will be to add value to all of the things which make it so special and steadily improve performance on and off the pitch, using our experience and know-how." I am a little confused about the mention of Palermo having a strong identity when they have just become part of a group and about to lose their individuality.

Bayern Defend Qatar Deal

Bayern Munich chief executive Oliver Kahn has come out in defence of the club's sponsorship deal with Qatar, which has been the subject of hate from their fans. Kahn claimed that the deal had helped to bring positive change to Qatar during a panel discussion with fan representatives: "I think very much has happened. Because we're sitting here today and discussing this very important topic." When asked about what had been achieved Kahn could not give a single example of any concrete action resulting from the deal. The discussion was not publicised and no media were present, but it was available to watch on the Bayern website. One fan representative, Michael Ott, pointed out Qatar's attempt to influence German soccer federation president Theo Zwanziger through a former CIA agent before talking about press freedom in the Gulf state: "Why are critical guest workers or journalists imprisoned in Qatar under questionable circumstances? If you are so serious about the reforms, then you can engage in a debate with them." I just wish Kahn would be honest and just admit they had done nothing but take the money in an attempt to keep up with the riches of the Premier League. All this nonsense is just embarrassing and I doubt there is a single person who is fooled by his claims.
