Chema Rodriguez has signed for Eibar on a free transfer from Getafe.

Have the first cracks appeared in the relationship between Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur after the London club posted quotes from the Italian manager on their official website which suggested he was not the one to sign Djed Spence. Spurs' site quoted Conte as saying: "Spence is an investment of the club. The club wanted to do it. I said, 'OK, this player is young but he showed he can become a good, important player for us'. The club decided to buy him."

Girondins Bordeaux striker Hwang Ui-jo has claimed that West Ham United are trying to sign him: "I am waiting, nothing is decided yet. There will be more details to give you depending on the financial situation of the team, of Bordeaux. It is true that offers have arrived from FC Nantes and West Ham United as well."

St Mirren youngster Dylan Reid has rejected a transfer offer from Celtic.

Forest Green Rovers have taken former Celtic youngster Jonathan Afolabi on trial.

Signing former Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has been ruled out by Livingston manager David Martindale, despite the forward training with Livi.

With interest from both Chelsea and Barcelona in the centre-back, Sevilla have left Jules Kounde out of their squad for a pre-season training camp in Portugal.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, while being heckled by Napoli fans in the street, told one supporter that the club's all-time top scorer had turned down their offer of a new deal. Mertens had a contract option to extend his deal at 4.5m euros per season, which Napoli chose not to activate, to the fury of the fans. Instead De Laurentiis said: "I offered him first €1.8m, then raised it by €200,000 and then up to €2.4m and he turned it down... He wanted to stay for one year."

Injury Round Up

Lyon pair Moussa Dembele and former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette are expected to miss out on the weekend friendly against Feyenoord after being attacked by wasps in training. Dembele is rated as 50/50 despite multiple stings but Lacazette has not been as fortunate and is rated unlikely to be fit.

Job Changes

Disciplinary Charges

Hibernian have been dumped out of the Scottish League Cup after another moment of stupidity surrounding Rocky Bushiri. Having only signed him after a mix up over a loan deal, they had been forced to buy Bushiri from Norwich City after he reached the trigger point in appearances to activate an obligation to buy. They had not realised cup matches counted towards the appearance numbers and no one had thought to check, with the player and club saying their goodbyes to each other last season before Norwich pointed out their obligation! Now they have continued to field the defender in the League Cup despite him being suspended after being booked in the two previous group games they played. The match against Greenock Morton was awarded as a 3-0 victory to Morton, leaving Hibs on just 6 points and unable to progress to the next stage. If the club secretary survives this then it will be shocking! Stranraer have also been hit with a 3-0 defeat after fielding an ineligible player in their 2-2 draw with Forfar Athletic. Stranraer were also fined £1,000, half of which is suspended until 30 June 2023, while Hibs were fined £5,000 with £4,000 of it suspended for the same period.

Flop Forward Blames Accent For Failure

Former Liverpool forward Andriy Voronin, who joined the club on a free transfer from Bayer Leverkusen in 2007, has made a whole raft of excuses for his failings in England, rather than just admitting he was not good enough. Voronin claimed the accent caused him problems: "I understood almost nothing, my English wasn't good anyway. When Carragher and Gerrard talked, I asked them to repeat it in English. Liverpool didn't suit me as a city overall, even though it has a lot of history to offer, such as the Beatles. My father is a big fan of the band. When I told him I had signed with Liverpool, he started crying. I also couldn't cope with the weather and the rhythm of the games without a winter break. I was just travelling and playing, which was very exhausting." Voronin was working in Russia for the club Liverpool offloaded him to in 2010, Dynamo Moscow, until Russia invaded his homeland of Ukraine saying that he could not "see any possibility of staying in a country whose army destroys our cities & fires at civilians." I am not sure how he struggled with the weather when he was so far out of the team picture he was sent off on holiday for most of it!

Barca Mortgage The Future To Pay For Spending Spree

Barcelona will now be able to register new signings Raphinha, Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen and Robert Lewandowski after activating their second financial lever and selling a further 15% of their La Liga broadcasting rights to American firm Sixth Street. Sixth Street now own 25% of Barca's broadcasting rights for the next 25 years. Club president Joan Laporta said of the deal: "We continue to move forward on our strategy and are pleased to have completed this additional agreement with Sixth Street providing us with a meaningful increase in capital strength. Over the past few weeks, we and Sixth Street have engaged and collaborated with a shared understanding of what we are seeking to achieve for our organisation, and we look forward to our long-term partnership." They are expected to have received around £300m for the deal. Sixth Street also have a 30% ownership stake in NBA franchise San Antonio Spurs and a partnership with Barca's bitter rivals Real Madrid. The deal had been held up by the club requiring the permission of Goldman Sachs as Joan Laporta had put down 90% of Barca's TV rights down as collateral on the £500m+ loan the club took out last year. They are now looking at the possibility of a third lever which would allow them to hang on to Frenkie de Jong after all, while still signing targets such as Bernardo Silva from Manchester City. It has been claimed that their current signings were not as easy to make as it would seem, apart from 'secret' meetings with Xavi without Bayern Munich's permission, Lewandoski was not an easy player to tie down, with the Polish legend insisting on getting the number 9 shirt locked into his contract and reports that Barca actually paid 10m more than admitted as well as a 20m payout to Lewandowski's agent Pini Zahavi. Barca's current number 9 is Memphis Depay.
