Contracts

Wales have given their head coach, Robert Page, a new 4-year contract. The 48-year-old was previously Ryan Giggs' assistant before the former Manchester United winger took time out to deal with his court case. Initially Page took over on an interim basis in November 2020, before being given the job on a permanent basis after Giggs quit this summer.

AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali has extended his deal until 2027.

Transfers

AFC Wimbledon have signed the son of former West Ham United and Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen. Will Jaaskelainen is also a goalkeeper and has signed a one-month contract with the Dons. He was released by Crewe Alexandra in the summer.

After reports linked Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk with a summer move to Arsenal, which never materialised, the 21-year-old told CBS Sport that a move to Arsenal "would be hard to say no" to.

Fulham winger Anthony Knockaert has joined Volos NPS of the Greek Super League 1 on loan.

AS Monaco's former Everton full-back Djibril Sidibe has moved to AEK Athens on a free transfer.

Teenage Celtic goalkeeper Rory Mahady has left the club. The 16-year-old is set for a move to the English Premier League.

Newcastle United have completed the signing of former Liverpool keeper Loris Karius. The German was a free agent after being released by Liverpool.

Former Chelsea bruiser Diego Costa has joined Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 33-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Atletico Mineiro in January.

West Browmich Albion have signed free agent midfielder Tom Rogic on a 1-year deal. The 29-year-old had been released by Celtic in the summer.

Veteran free agent winger Mustapha Carayol has signed for Burton Albion on a short-term deal. Carayol was freed by Gillingham during the transfer window.

Barnsley have signed Ziyad Larkeche from Fulham on loan for the rest of the season.

Despite having an FA betting charge hanging over his head, Hartlepool United have signed Chris Maguire. The 33-year-old was a free agent after leaving Lincoln City following a suspension for breaching betting rules from the Football Association.

Mustapha Hussein has signed for Crawley Town on a free transfer from non-league football.

Ross County youngster Andrew Macleod has signed on loan for Clachnacuddin.

Cove Rangers have taken Kyle McClelland on loan from Hibernian.

Injury Round Up

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has been ruled out until next month with a knee injury he suffered in training.

Cheltenham Town defender Matty Blair has retired due to injury.

Real Sociedad's former Rangers striker Umar Sadiq has almost certainly been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury against Getafe.

Borussia Moenchengladbach duo Florian Neuhaus and Ko Itakura hve suffered injuries. Neuhaus has a partial rupture of the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, while Itakura also has a partial rupture, but to his medial collateral ligament. Neither player require surgery right now but are expected to be out until after the World Cup.

Job Changes

Graham Potter has taken his assistant coach Billy Reid, first-team coaches Bjorn Hamberg and Bruno, goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts and assistant head of recruitment Kyle Macauley with him to Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Rangers' domestic scout Robert Clarkson has left to head up the English FA's Talent ID from under-18 to senior level. Clarkson has been at Rangers since 2017. The SPFL side had already lost Andy Scoulding this summer as the chief scout moved to Tottenham Hotspur. This has led to a restructuring of the Rangers recruitment team, with former Celtic scout John Park coming in but not as a direct replacement for either of the two that left.

Bologna have appointed Thiago Motta as their new head coach as the replacement for Sinisa Mihajlovic, who was sacked last week. Motta left Spezia in the summer.

After six straight defeats to start the season VfL Bochum have sacked their head coach Thomas Reis. Assistant manager Markus Gellhaus has also been dismissed. Head coach of the Under-19s side Heiko Butscher has been placed in interim charge. Reis is the second coach sacked in the Bundesliga this season, following RB Leipzig sacking Domenico Tedesco and replacing him with Marco Rose.

Disciplinary Charges

Unsurprisingly both OGC Nice and 1.FC Koln have been charged for crowd disturbances, throwing of objects and lighting of fireworks over the violence which delayed the kick-off to their Europa Conference League tie on Thursday in France. Nice have also received additional charges over the lack of security and ability for fans to get pyrotechnics into the ground. I am just wondering if Paris Saint-Germain will also face charges as their fans were also involved in the violence, which the club have condemned. But I doubt those fans are going to be put off further violence by sanctions placed against Nice and Cologne!

Amid fears of violence, French authorities in Marseille have ordered a partial ban on alcohol sales and also banned Eintracht Frankfurt fans from travelling on their own. Frankfurt have 3,300 tickets for the Champions League game against Olympique Marseille, but it is believed 5,000 extra supporters without tickets will also be making the trip to Marseille. Frankfurt fans were involved in a number of clashes during their run to the Europa League final last season. Stade Rennais have also increased security for their Europa League match against Fenerbahce, including limiting their capacity to just 19,000 people from its usual 29,778 seats. French football has been plagued by violent incidents since the return of fans following the pandemic.

Pointless List Of The Day

Today it is teenagers who have scored at a FIFA World Cup in the 21st Century, with just 5 players managing it so far. Though that might change in a couple of month's time!
2002 - Dmitri Sychev - Russia - 18 years old
2006 - Lionel Messi - Argentina - 18 years old
2014 - Julian Green - USA - 19 years old
2014 - Divock Origi - Belgium - 19 years old
2018 - Kylian Mbappe - France - 19 years old

Tel Becomes Youngest

Bayern Munich's summer signing, French forward Mathys Tel, has become the club's youngest ever Bundesliga goal scorer. Tel is just 17 years and 136 days old, breaking the record set by Jamal Musiala, who was 17 years and 205 days old when he scored against Schalke 04 back in 2020. Tel only signed for Bayern in the summer from Stade Rennais for a transfer fee that could rise to over £25m. Despite that, the league is surprisingly led by Union Berlin, a club that is the antithesis of the modern big money superpower clubs trying to create a European Super League.

Ziyech Recall

Just 7 months after Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech quit international football, and despite performances that have been the lesser side of poor to be polite, the winger has received a recall to the Morocco squad. Ziyech quit the national side after falling out with head coach Vahid Halilhodzic in February. The Bosnian was sacked in August and new man in charge Walid Regragui immediately moved to bring the former Ajax man back into the fold: "When I spoke to him, he accepted immediately and told me that he couldn't wait to return to the squad." Ziyech fell out with Halilhodzic after he accused Ziyech of feigning injury to miss friendly matches.

Madrid In Profit

Real Madrid have announced a profit of £11m for the 2021-22 financial year despite the after-effects of the pandemic. A club statement claimed a net worth of £473m, up by £10m from the previous year. The club also claim that they have £368m to spend as they choose, compared to Barcelona's requirement to sell before they buy. Madrid's operating income increased by 10% to £626m. All of this is despite announcing losses of £347m due to the pandemic. The sale of Casemiro to Manchester United saw Madrid make a profit of £8m in player sales.
