Injury Round Up
Job Changes
Everton have finally sacked Frank Lampard after their 9th defeat in 12 Premier League games. Lampard took charge of the Toffees in January 2022 but was unable to manage a year in charge of the struggling blue half of Merseyside. Coaches Joe Edwards, Paul Clement, Ashley Cole and Chris Jones have all gone with him leaving Paul Tait and Leighton Baines to take training until a new man is found.
Newcastle United have begun looking to expend their scouting and recruitment department as Sporting Director Dan Ashworth looks to follow the model he used while at Brighton & Hove Albion. At the Seagulls, Ashworth had a position-specific scouting team, where video analysts would look for potential targets by "focusing on specific positions". Traditionally scouts will cover a geographical area and just look at any players in that area, regardless of position they play. BHA moved away from that tradition in April 2022 under Ashworth, before he joined Newcastle in June.
Nigel Rees, the former Academy Manager at Swansea City, has been appointed General Manager of the Professional Game Academy Audit Company (PGAAC). The PGAAC was set up by the Premier League, English Football League and Football Association in 2018 to audit academies in the English game and ensure they maintain the quality required to achieve tier and category ratings.
Disciplinary Charges
The Football Association are appealing against the 18-month ban handed out to former Crawley Town manager John Yems for racially abusing players in his care over a period of years. Astonishingly the disciplinary commission, despite finding him guilty of a lengthy catalogue of racist abuse, said that the comments were "not a case of conscious racism". The FA are now appealing in the belief that the sanction is too lenient and Yems should be banned for a much longer period.
Pointless List Of The Day
Bale Is The Golfer
Former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale is living up to his reputation as a completely self-absorbed person by immediately announcing his intention to enter a PGA Tour golf tournament just a few days after retiring from 'playing'. Or should it be hanging up his boots from malingering from the club side paying his wages while awaiting a Wales game?
Posh Buses
After a match between Peterborough United and Charlton Athletic was called off just 90 minutes before kick-off at the weekend, Posh owners Darragh McAnthony and Jason Neale have agreed to pay for more than 30 coaches to bring the Charlton fans to the rearranged fixture. The original fixture was called off due to a frozen pitch, which Peterborough's owners issued an apology for: "I appreciate this won't suit all parties and is of no consolation to both sets of supporters who have been massively inconvenienced, nor will it be any kind of solace to the Charlton Athletic staff, players and management, but we can only apologise on behalf of the football club." They have also offered a full refund to fans from either club who are unable to attend the rearranged fixture and have even offered to discuss on a case-by-case basis with individuals who travel long-distance to the game. On top of that, they have also offered free tickets to fans for the next league match between the two at Peterborough's stadium.
