Review of the Day
Contracts
La Liga have announced that they have reduced the spending caps of Barcelona, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid due to their exits from the Champions League.
Transfers
Swansea City's head coach Russell Martin has said that defender Ryan Manning will leave the Welsh team at the end of the season. The 26-year-old has rejected all offers of a new deal from the Swans and his contract will expire in the summer.
Free agent midfielder Anthony Mancini has signed for Accrington Stanley.
Stockport County have signed free agent former Manchester City youngster Jacob Davenport.
Injury Round Up
Chelsea captain Cezar Azpilicueta will be out for an unspecified period after being taken to hospital following an accidental kick in the face as Southampton's Sekou Mara attempted an overhead kick. Azpilicueta was knocked unconscious and lay motionless on the pitch before receiving oxygen treatment and being taken off on a stretcher and taken to hospital.
Borussia Dortmund's forward Karim Adeyemi has been ruled out for 3 weeks with an injury picked up setting up a goal during Dortmund's 4-1 win over Hertha Berlin on Sunday. Adeyemi, who had registered 3 goals and 1 assist in the last 3 games, tore a muscle fibre according to BvB. It means he will miss a trip to Chelsea in the Champions League.
Napoli forward Giacomo Raspadori has suffered a second-degree injury to the semimembranosus muscle in his left thigh, which will sideline him for at least a month.
Job Changes
Queens Park Rangers have sacked Neil Critchley. Critchley lasted just 12 games after replacing Michael Beale when he left to take charge of Scottish giants Rangers. Critchley's assistants Mike Garrity and Iain Brunskill have also been sacked. It has been 10 games since QPR last registered a win and have slipped into the relegation zone.
Newport County have appointed Jon Pratt as a co-opted director. The businessman is now based in Miami but is from Newport and makes regular trips to watch his hometown team play.
Derby County have hired Mark Thomas from Oxford United. Thomas was Head of Recruitment at Oxford but will be working as Derby's Director of Football. As recently as September, Derby's new owner David Clowes and club CEO Stephen Pearce said that there were no plans to hire a Director of Football.
La Liga president Javier Tebas has told Joan Laporta that he should resign if he can not explain properly why Barcelona paid millions to a company owned by La Liga referee Enriquez Negreira: "Barcelona have not been clear about the 'Negreira case'. They have not explained anything. If Laporta does not explain, he should resign." Tebas also went on to attack the Premier League, again, this time referring to it as "the Super Debt League" and claiming that La Liga clubs have lost €250m, while Premier League clubs have lost €2bn. Obviously it escaped his notice that Barcelona alone are in €2bn debt, despite going on to comment later in the same interview that Barca are in a worse financial situation than Juventus and that their wage bill alone needs to be reduced by about €200m. In fact Tebas admits he is so concerned about their financial situation that he will be challenging the court ruling that allowed them to register Gavi's new contract in January.
Disciplinary Charges
Birmingham City and a "number of individuals" have been charged by the English Football League with misconduct related to a takeover bid. The EFL believes that a number of people were allowed to act as "relevant persons" without having received EFL approval or passing the fit and proper persons test. The charges also include passing over control of the club without approval from the league.
Tottenham Hotspur have once again reported that their South Korean forward Son Heung-min has been racially abused on social media, following his goal in Spurs' 2-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday.
Kilmarnock have appealed against Kyle Vassell's red card that he was shown against Hibernian.
Pointless List Of The Day
Trotters Get New Stadium Name
Bolton Wanderers have found a new title sponsor for their stadium. For many years it was the Reebok Stadium before switching to become the University of Bolton Stadium. Now, after the club signed what they termed the largest sponsorship deal in the club's history, it will be named after a local building manufacturer. For the next five years Bolton will play home matches at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
