Football News: Can Hearts End The Old Firm Dominance?
Good morning, I've been reading an interesting article in The Guardian about Hearts' Tony Bloom, and his bold prediction about ending the Old Firm's dominance. Now, it may not happen this season but I'm no longer laughing at the thought.
Tony Bloom has the money, the connections, and the intelligence. He's a sharp operator, especially when it comes to data analytics. While we sit here debating how to catch Celtic, Hearts are sitting top of the league - and no matter what happens today, they'll still be there.
We've watched Glasgow Rangers, our own team completely implode this season, while Celtic, although not at their best, also seem to be unravelling largely because Brendan Rodgers has already confirmed he's leaving at the end of the season, and their board pulled back on the funding he wanted in the last transfer window.
We had a real chance this season to make a genuine push for the title. But the appointment of Martin, combined with a poor transfer window whether people want to admit it or not has really set us back. Rangers sitting mid-table as we head into November is nothing short of a disgrace, considering the budget we're spending on player salaries and transfer fees compared to the rest of the league. It's shocking.
Meanwhile, Hearts have been tearing it up on less than half the budget. I remember posting before about Derek McInnes, saying I'd take him as manager - and some laughed, calling it ridiculous. But this is the first time McInnes has had a good club with proper backing.
He might not win anything in his first season, but with Bloom now behind Hearts investing, planning, and driving the club forward I can genuinely see them becoming a real force.
The question now is; will our own owners match that ambition? Will they back up their words about making us successful? Because if we're serious, it's no longer just Celtic we need to match it's Tony Bloom's vision at Hearts.
Right now, the jury is out. Hearts sit top, we languish mid-table, and our players already look beaten. We're on the canvas at the count of eight.
