Liverpool's Collapse Under Slot Reaches a New Low

Liverpool's heavy loss to PSV Eindhoven has intensified concerns that Arne Slot's system is fundamentally broken, with even mid-tier opponents now exploiting the same weaknesses every week.

A Night Supporters Are Almost Glad They Missed

Normally I would say sadly I couldn't watch the game, but in this case I am almost grateful. Missing Liverpool against PSV Eindhoven feels like a blessing rather than a disappointment. I've seen a couple of posters saying it's time to put Gomez on instead of Donate (not a typo), which to be honest I agree with, but changing personnel does not fix a system that looks broken from front to back. I caught the first half hour in brief spells and even then you could sense what sort of night it might be. The penalty went in, the pattern became familiar and yet for a short spell Liverpool did show signs of dominance. That brief moment of control did not count for much in the end.

A Second-Half Collapse That Cannot Be Excused

What happened after half time is the part that truly raises concern. The final scoreline reads like a side that were completely outplayed, not by Manchester City or Real Madrid or Arsenal, but by PSV. That is not intended as disrespect, but Liverpool should never be losing in that manner. A scrappy 2 1 defeat with a stroke of misfortune is one thing. What happened here was something entirely different. It resembled a team without shape, confidence or any understanding of how to control the game once the momentum shifted.

My point from the Nottingham Forest game is the same. This manager has been worked out not only by the elite sides but also by teams who are still developing or even slightly past their peak. Every manager seems to know exactly how to set up against Liverpool now. The patterns are obvious, the weaknesses are clear and the outcomes are becoming far too predictable.

Backing the Manager Only Works When There Is a Foundation

I have always tried to back a Liverpool manager no matter what. Most supporters do, but there is a point where what you are watching becomes unacceptable. This setup is not going to win the Champions League and it certainly will not challenge in the league. You cannot rely on one competition while neglecting the other, not when the system itself looks so fragile. Paying him compensation and moving on might sound drastic, but this cannot continue. Winning a league title last season does not give you the right to dismantle everything that was built by Jurgen Klopp, FSG and everyone involved in the club's rise.

Slot was brought in to build on that foundation, to adapt what already worked and carry it forward. Instead he has undone much of the progress that was carefully built over years. The structure has gone, the intensity has vanished and the confidence has been drained from the players who once thrived under a clear identity.

A Season Spiralling Into a Costly Write Off

If this upsets supporters or causes disagreement, I understand, but the reality is becoming unavoidable. This season is shaping up to be a five hundred million pound write off. Performances are deteriorating, results are inconsistent and the wider football world can see Liverpool sliding backwards. A change must be made before the damage goes beyond repair. Liverpool are not supposed to be in this position and continuing down this path will only drag the club further away from the standard it worked so hard to reach.
