Danny Rohl Faces Major Rebuild At Glasgow Rangers

Danny Rohl Faces Major Rebuild At Glasgow Rangers

A frustrated reflection on Rangers' current squad, highlighting falling standards, ineffective signings and the scale of the task facing Danny Rohl ahead of the January window.

Rangers' Current Level

It's becoming painfully clear that far too many in this team are absolutely honking. To put things in perspective, and to show how far off it we are, Connor Barron is currently our best performer. That simply shouldn't be the case. He works hard, gives everything, and never hides, but the reality is that he should not be anywhere near the level of being our standout player. Players in that mould can contribute, but they won't take Rangers to the standard required for genuine success, and the fact he is leading the pack says everything about where this squad is right now.

The Challenge Facing Danny Rohl

If we thought Danny Rohl was stepping into a rough job, then God help him if this is truly the calibre he has to work with. The January transfer window cannot come quickly enough, because this group is nowhere near what a manager of his ambition and approach deserves. The lack of quality, leadership and consistency is glaring, and it leaves him trying to squeeze something out of a squad that looks mentally and technically short every single week.

Loan Signings and Recruitment Failures

Every last loan signing should be sent straight back to their parent club, and I include Moore in that. The money we've p'd up the wall on these disastrous loans is scandalous. Apart from Cornelius, the rest have been either rid rotten or bang average at best. This kind of wasteful recruitment has dragged the squad down, leaving us with players who can't influence matches, can't raise the level, and can't be relied upon when games turn tight or scrappy.

Standards Falling Below Rangers' Expectations

I don't care about circumstances or any of the usual happy-clapping excuses. A club of Rangers' stature should never be this poor after spending what we spent. It absolutely stinks. We have a strike force that cost more than £17 million combined and can't finish chances. We have defenders who can't defend properly. And we have a midfield where a very average player is somehow the standout performer. That picture alone sums up just how far standards have slipped.

Looking Ahead

Over to you, Danny. I hope and pray that you, and the new owners, have a proper transfer strategy ready to replace this current bag of jimmy white with players who can actually play for Rangers. The rebuild cannot wait. And as for the poster who claimed we're only "four players" away from being a good side? That gave me a proper laugh. I'll have some of whatever he was on, because we're far more than four short of a serious team.
