Why Rob Edwards Is Not Working at Wolves

Why Rob Edwards Is Not Working at Wolves

There is frustration with Rob Edwards' inconsistency and decision-making, plus concerns about favourites in selection. The view is Wolves should reassess the head coach and look at alternatives like John Mousinho.

I wanted Rob Edwards to succeed at Wolverhampton Wanderers, mainly because I do not want to support a club that keeps binning managers. But truth is, I have never been a fan. His record is not good enough, he is too inconsistent as a head coach, and he looks out of his depth in the Premier League.

Tactics are not the only issue

There is no point overly dissecting Edwards' selections and tactics because it has been discussed to death. His flaws as a head coach are there for all to see, and it feels like the same mistakes keep coming round.

If he was employed solely to get Wolves promoted from the Championship then, for me, it was a very poor decision by Jeff Shi. Was the plan to get promoted under Rob and then sack him ten games into a Premier League season? In all honesty, that sort of thinking feels very Jeff Shi.

How much has actually changed?

I truly believe that if you take away the surprise of Mateus Mane and the points gained from his inclusion, Wolves would still be chasing Derby's points record. Edwards has made no real difference.

I do get that he walked into a nightmare situation, created by Jeff Shi, but he still makes too many poor decisions for my liking. I see him as an average coach, and I cannot shake the feeling that Wolves will always lose too many games under him.

Selection, favourites, and players left cold

I also do not like his attitude when it comes to playing favourites, and I do not like one of his signings either. Angel Gomes, to me, is a very poor player.

What does Moller Wolfe need to do to get a game? If he had the same number of games under his belt as Hugo Bueno, I believe Wolfe's numbers would be better. He is a better player, but Bueno looks like Edwards' boy from the youth set-up. Lima cannot get a kick, Rodrigo Gomes barely gets a sniff, and Tolu has seemingly been put out to pasture.

If Wolves are serious, look elsewhere

If Nathan Shi is serious about Wolves going back up at the first time of asking then he needs to take a serious look at who the head coach is going to be.

Portsmouth's John Mousinho is someone Wolves should be looking at. He has done a fantastic job keeping Portsmouth in the Championship after getting them up from League One, and they play good football as well. I watch Pompey now and again as I have a soft spot for them, and I do not think it will be long before a bigger club comes in for Mousinho.
