Football News: Hammers relief at Song exclusion

Hammers relief at Song exclusion

West Ham United have breathed a sigh of relief as Cameroon manager Volker Finke has named the squad for the African Cup of Nations and left out the name of Alex Song.

Finke has only included the players who played in the qualifying rounds, when Song was suspended following his 2014 World Cup elbow on Mario Mandzukic of Croatia.

Huge pressure is being exerted on Finke to include Song, the nephew of former Cameroon international captain Rigobert, but it is fair to say none of the pressure is coming from within the Hammers camp!

While Song is having an excellent season for the East Londoners, on loan from Barcelona, you have to wonder if this might reduce their chances of signing him on a permanent deal.

After all, would the coach have excluded him if he had been playing as well, even captaining the side as a loan player, for a club such as Tottenham Hotspur or Manchester United, both of whom are looking for a player in his mould?
