Football News: Uruguayan starlet on trial with Arsenal

Arsenal have taken Uruguayan youngster Federico Valverde on a week long trial with a view to a permanent deal.

The 16 year old is so highly rated by his parent club, Penarol, that they only agreed to the trial if Arsenal agreed a £4m insurance deal, in case of injury.

The Uruguay under-17 international's parent club told the media in his home country: "Penarol has no intention of selling its star to Arsenal or any other team. However, this club was so insistent that we accept to travel for a week."

With Penarol have ruled out any possibility of selling him, added to the difficulty in obtaining a work permit, you have to wonder why Arsenal were so keen to get him on a trial?
