Football News: Are some teams doomed to fail?

Leicester City have got themselves in an awkward situation now, they are starting to get cut adrift at the bottom of the Premier League and the transfer window is getting near to shutting. Now they have to be certain of the manager in place, or remove Nigel Pearson and bring in someone they do believe in.

With Pearson and the owners being at loggerheads over the summer regarding transfers, a lot of the responsibility has been taken out of his hands. It does seems strange to do this, in a similar way to Liverpool and their transfer committee have done at Liverpool.

I understand that they are having doubts over their choice of manager, that they fear that they will not be able to achieve the success that was hoped for when he was appointed, but what they have done is ensure that the manager fails. In expressing doubts about their ability and removing power from their hands, they have weakened their position.

Especially in the realms of transfers, as they are now working with players that are unsure if the manager even wants them. It is difficult enough when clubs have a director of football system and a head coach, as players can get caught up in the middle of a power struggle. When you have a manager being forced to hand over some of his responsibility, it is a clear sign of an ongoing power struggle.

No man rises to that level in the workplace without an ego, an ego that is being battered and bruised by people casting doubts on his abilities in his role. So now there is a workplace with employees that are not sure if their boss wants to work with them, a boss who feels slighted and everyone looking over their shoulder wondering when the owner is going to pull the trigger and get rid of the manager altogether.

The owners create failure by being afraid of it. In situations like this, it requires strength of purpose, the ability to either back or sack the man they put in charge. Anything else guarantees the failure they are afraid of.
