Football News: Post season tours, what is the point?

The title is probably a mistake, looking at it now, as it is clear that the point of the postseason tours is to make clubs money. That is definitely why Tottenham Hotspur are in Australia playing against A-League teams.

What I really want to know is, why do clubs constantly complain about how their players are so fatigued throughout the season, then agree all these draining long distance tours, not just in postseason, but preseason too. It is madness.

Surely the most important thing about football is challenging for trophies, and the money is meant to be coming in to aid the challenge? Except in this case, it seems to be about bringing the money in for the sake of bringing the money in, as these tours are detrimental to the chances of the team being able to mount a good challenge next season.

If European football is so draining, as players have to travel, then these tours must really be bad, at the worst possible times of the season for those players as well. Should a team like Manchester City, on the back of such a bad season, not be putting everything into preparing the club for next season?

I know the Premier League want to empty the wallets, er I mean give fans from around the world a chance to see the players they otherwise only see on TV, but surely there has to be a better way to do it? It may seem like they are doing the right thing by having these tours, but to me it seems like they are removing some of the magic of the Prem for these fans.

Fans around the world will save for years for one trip to go and see their team at their home stadium, it is a lifetime ambition for some people and it is special to them. If they get to see those teams on a regular basis, witll that magic wear off?

The over exposure of football on the TV is already beginning to wear thin for some people, it is killing the lower leagues, that is for sure. I suppose the only ones who will end up suffering now, apart from the teams who will falter in their title challenges due to these trips, is the local leagues in the countries visited.

It is difficult enough for them to compete with the Premier League when it is on television screens, how can they compete when the teams are there in the flesh? If these leagues are not allowed to develop and grow, where will future players come from for the Premier League?
