Last season was one of the most memorable seasons I can remember ever seeing Leicester City involved with, it surpassed the Martin O'Neill era in terms of quality of play, despite not achieving the heights of midtable safety and cup success.

This was a much better playing style to watch, with more excitement about the season as they started off with some shock results (a certain 5-3 win springs to mind), but still struggled along in the relegation zone with just a few games to go.

Then the miracle occurred and Leicester hit a purple patch to achieve safety before the final weekend, enabling them to just have a nice day out to celebrate the safety of another season in the Premier League.

It was not just the team that turned things around, it was the manager too, who was at one point on the verge of the sack as the club's owners actively searched for a replacement.

As it turned out, the best thing for the club was their fruitless search, as none of the managers they wanted were either available or interested in the role, so Nigel Pearson was given time, despite his outburst at fans, the odd incident with James MacArthur and the bizarre press conferences about ostriches.

One thing stood out for me though, and that was simply Esteban Cambiasso, who seized the games by the scruff of the neck and was up there as one of the best players in the Prem in the final weeks, with some quite probably world class performances.

It is vital that he is retained by the Foxes going into next season, without him they have a huge gaping hole in midfield that will be almost impossible to fill.

The question now is what do they do, do they gamble on grit, power and pace and settle for just avoiding the drop over the next few seasons, or do they try and add some real quality to push the club up the table, with the risk it could all go sour.

Can the owners, who have the money to invest if they do decide to spend, trust Pearson with the funds, despite all his 'moments' last season, can he handle the pressure, or will they need to replace him to move up the league?

These are big decisions that will shape the future of the club. They have to get them right, or risk dropping back out and losing the huge amounts of money that just being in the Premier League brings in.
