Football News: QPR Need A Fresh Beginning

QPR Need A Fresh Beginning

For me there is one event that just happened that sums up the complete ineptitude of the way QPR has been run under Tony Fernandes, an ineptitude of a similar scale to the way he ran Caterham. It is not the FFP issues, though they are indicative of poor planning, it is simply the awarding of a new contract to Karl Henry.

This is a player that is not good enough at Championship level, let alone Premier League level, the club desperately needs to offload players to bring the immense wage budget down, yet they award Henry a new contract. The only players that should be getting new contracts are the best ones, plan ahead, get them tied down, let the rest run down their contracts or leave for cheap.

QPR just need to sort out their overspend, which is currently obscene, before they end up in serious trouble, as Fernandes can not be trusted to stay and fight for the team in the long term. He has shown at Caterham that he only bothers if things are going his way, if they are against him, he is quick to walk away, no matter what damage it does.

This is a club that currently needs to find the funds to pay for a new stadium, every penny counts. The last thing you do in this position is to award players who have already failed you new contracts. This summer should have been time to clear out the weak links and start afresh, instead of compounding those mistakes.
