2. Boro splash out on striker signing
Following reports that Middlesbrough's bid for Jordan Rhodes had fallen through over his wage demands came the announcement that they had completed the signing for an undisclosed fee. The Scottish striker has left Blackburn Rovers and agreed a four and a half year deal with Boro, who are really pushing the boat out this season, in an attempt to return to the Premier League. Rhodes joined Blackburn for £8m from Huddersfield Town back in 2012. "The club is delighted to confirm the arrival of Jordan Rhodes from Blackburn Rovers," read a statement on Boro's official site. "The 25-year-old striker has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the club after joining from Ewood Park for an undisclosed fee." Rhodes has already scored 11 goals this season for Rovers, despite their struggles near the foot of the Championship table.

3. Hearts sign striker to replace Sow
With striker Osman Sow headed off to China to rake in the cash on offer there, Heart of Midlothian needed to find a striker to replace him. Boss Robbie Nielson turned to Vitesse Arnhem to take a 27 year old Nigerian striker on loan for the rest of the season. Abiola Dauda has won league titles with previous clubs Kalmar in Sweden and Red Star Belgrade in Serbia. Hearts boss Robbie Nielson said: "It's great to get Abiola signed up and he's got a good pedigree. He was our number one target at the start of the month but we thought the deal wasn't going to happen, but it was back on again and I'm delighted to get him. He's got pace, power and I'm sure he'll score goals. The fans will see a top quality player who's played at the top level in three European countries."

4. Man Utd get clearance to play defender
Five months after signing for Manchester United, teenage defender Regan Poole is finally able to play for the Red Devils. 17 year old Poole left Newport County in the summer to sign for the Manchester club, but has been forced to wait until now for his international clearance to arrive, despite signing from a club in the English league system. Poole was the Exile's youngest ever player when he made his debut against Shrewsbury Town in 2014.

5. Everton in big signing shocker
For once, Everton are one of the big spenders on transfer deadline day as the Merseyside club move to get a striker from Lokomotiv Moscow. Oumar Niasse has been added to the Toffee's squad for a fee of £13.5m. The Senegalese was Russian Premier League Player of the Year for 2015 and has bagged 13 goals and 10 assists so far this season in his 23 games for Lokomotiv.

6. Liverpool fan gives derby tickets to abused Everton fan
A Liverpool fan is to give up his own and his son's season tickets for the Merseyside Derby at Anfield to a young Everton fan and his father. People have been shocked by the story of young Evertonian James 'JJ' Ireland who ended up with tickets in the home end, along with his dad, during Everton's League Cup semi final second leg at the Etihad Stadium. It was JJ's first ever away match, but the eight year old's experience was marred as he was subjected to shocking abuse. JJ has cerebal palsy and had to endure Manchester City fans telling him that "he should have been drowned at birth" amongst the abuse. Hearing about the incident, Robbie Owen was disgusted and came forward to offer JJ and his father tickets in the home end at Anfield, so he can experience a proper away day experience. He said: "It's shocking what was said to that poor lad. No one ever deserves that. It's disgusting what was said to him. Me and my lad would like to give up our tickets to the derby so JJ and his dad can go and see what an away game should be like. Me and my son will watch the match in the pub, no problem. We look after one another in this city."

7. Porto sign MLS defender
Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City have sent young defender Erik Palmer-Brown out on loan. Not for them sending him down to their affiliate side in the MLS feeder league, United Soccer League. Despite Palmer-Brown playing just 7 games last season, and being only 18 (in fact he is the youngest defender to start an MLS game), the youngster is to join the rivals of the side Sporting KC were named after, Porto. Is this a sign that the homegrown player efforts being made in the USA are beginning to bear fruit?

8. Foxes defender heads back to Italy
Leicester City only signed French centre back Yohan Benalouane in August, but now he is off on loan for the rest of the season. Benalouane arrived from Atalanta in Italy's Serie A and is now returning there to play for Fiorentina, after just nine appearances in total. The Foxes paid £4.9m to bring in the defender in August and have received a loan fee of £175,000 to lend him to Fiorentina for the rest of the season, who also have an option to make the deal permanent.

9. Potters smash record
Stoke City have broken their transfer record to sign 22 year old central midfielder Gianelli Imbula from Porto. Imbula has shattered the record set in the summer with the £12m signing of Xherdan Shaqiri from Inter Milan as he arrived for a fee of £18.3m from Portugese giants Porto. Imbula has signed a five and a half year contract. Potters chief executive Tony Scholes told the club's website: "Giannelli is a player we have been trailing for some time and we are delighted to have concluded a deal to sign him. At one stage it looked unlikely that we would be able to get the deal over the line but things accelerated quickly earlier today and Giannelli is really excited about the prospect of playing in the Premier League with us." Stoke boss Mark Hughes said: "Giannelli is a good young player. He has great power, good ability on the ball and a great range of passing and there's no doubt he will add to the quality that we already have at the club. He played against us in pre-season and although I was already aware of him, seeing him at first hand resonated with me."

10. MK Dons release former Bayern winger
Dale Jennings, probably best known for being plucked from obscurity with Tranmere Rovers to join German giants Bayern Munich, has now been released by English Championship side MK Dons. Jennings has struggled for form and fitness, and was warned about his weight in December, by Dons manager Karl Robinson. "Dale Jennings hasn't worked yet," said Robinson. "It was my wildcard. He has a lot to do, and he owes a lot of people. We all know the talent he has. He's a top footballer, but he needs to realise football isn't just about what you do on the training pitch, but away from it as well. He's carrying a bit of extra weight. Maybe putting it out publicly, he might sort it out."
