2. Gills receive suspended fine for ineligible player
Gillingham were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player, Emmanuel Osadebe, in their opening day League One fixture with Sheffield United, which the Gills won 4-0. While the usual policy in a case of ineligible players being fielded is a points deduction, the Board of The Football League agreed with the Football Disciplinary Commission that decided that mitigating factors reduced the club's level of blame for the matter. Gills had submitted all relevant forms in the normal way, in good time, after signing the player in July 2015. The club believed that Osadebe's previous club to be affiliated to Tottenham Hotspur's youth system and so, incorrectly, considered his signing to be within the domestic player registration system. Based on this information, The Football League registered the player on 22nd July, however it turned out that his registration was in fact held by Irish League club Dundalk. Despite the club's documentation being submitted in good time, the FA had failed to process the documentation ahead of the season, where they would have identified that Osadebe needed international clearance and notified the club, who would then have left him out until that clearance arrived. With the player being registered by the Football League, Gills selected the player, despite not receiving written confirmation from the FA that it had also registered the player. A Football League spokesman said: "While Gillingham have admitted that Emmanuel Osadebe should not have been selected for the match with Sheffield United on August 8 without all of the necessary confirmations being in place, it is also fair to say that the FA should have identified this issue earlier. Had it done so, this breach of regulations would never have occurred. Given the exceptional circumstances of this case, the Commission has ruled that the club should not find itself subject to a points deduction." Gills instead got a £4,000 fine, suspended for 12 months.

4. What to do when about to be interviewed by someone a lot shorter than you
Jurgen Klopp helps out the interviewer after Liverpool's 1-0 win over Augsburg in the Europa League, as his 6ft 4inch frame would have otherwise towered over her:

5. Whatever happened to the days when English fans were this passionate?

This video is from 15 minutes after Augsburg had lost 1-0 to Liverpool to crash out of the Europa League. It is hard not to like fans like this.

6. O'Neill tells Gibson to leave Everton
The Republic of Ireland manager has told one of his internationals to look for a move if he wants to play in the summer's Euro 2016 tournament in France. Darron Gibson is a player that Martin O'Neill would like to include in his squad, but his lack of first team football makes that difficult. O'Neill has spoken to the Derry Journal and said: "Darron Gibson hasn't played much. I still think there's an emergency loan option and he's not getting a game at all with Everton. (Aiden) McGeady went out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday. So I don't know. We'll see. It's February at the moment and we'll see what develops. I think Darron will know what he has to do to get himself involved. I don't see why he can't make it if he can get a run of games. I'm not overly bothered about people dropping down a division. The Championship is every bit as competitive as you want it to be... Playing once in four months for whoever it might be, will not get you fit, It genuinely won't. You can train everyday but if you're not playing matches competitively there is a hell of a difference."

7. Oliseh quits Nigeria post
Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sunday Oliseh has quit his role as Nigeria's head coach, after just seven months in charge. Oliseh wrote: "Due to contract violations, lack of support, unpaid wages, benefits to my players, asst. coaches and myself, I resign as Super Eagles Chief Coach. I feel fortunate, blessed and eternally grateful for having had the honour to play, captain and coach this great nation of ours, Nigeria."

8. Huddersfield use TV income to reduce ticket prices
Championship side Huddersfield Town have announced a reduction in their season ticket prices for 2016/17 using increased TV revenue to cover the cost. As many Premier League teams are being beset by angry fans unhappy with high ticket prices, while TV revenue has gone through the roof, Huddersfield are looking to bring back unhappy fans by lowering ticket prices. "We decided that with new TV money coming in we would reduce season-card prices." Hoyle said. "It's an amazing saving to hopefully watch fantastic entertaining football and see the club go forward. At a time when more money is coming into football, you see so many stadia which have empty seats," Hoyle said. "Prices have been going Northwards, but we want to try a different way. Let's get the stadium fuller and see where it takes us."

9. Alonso next to be hit by a tax case in Spain
A judge in Spain has been asked by a Spanish state prosecutor to open an investigation into alleged tax evasion by Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso. Alonso, now with Bayern Munich, left Liverpool to sign for Real Madrid in 2009 and the allegations date from 2009-11. Prosecutor Jose Javier Polo has told Associated Press that his office found evidence pointing to Alonso having defrauded Spain's tax office of 3m Euros from 2009-11. The judge will now examine the evidence and decide whether to open a case or not. Alonso denies any wrongdoing.

10. Bournemouth left back signs new deal
Charlie Daniels has signed a new 3 and a half year deal with Bournemouth. The left back has been a regular, starting 25 times for the Cherries this season. "Charlie has been a model of consistency for me this season," Howe told Bournemouth's website. "He has been very, very impressive and really set the marker for us. Not only on matchdays but also in training. He deserves this deal and hopefully it's another step towards what will be a successful season for us."
