With the only unbeaten record in the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur's main challenge will be to maintain their focus when the pressure is on at the end of the season. Last season they folded, very Spurs-like, when Leicester City just kept picking up the points in the final few games. Their collapse was so total that they finished 3rd in a two horse race!
This season Mauricio Pochettino will want to see his players keep going and maintaining their form right to the end of the season. This season they have been stronger defensively, which was their main strength yesterday, plus looking more dangerous going forward, even without the main man Harry Kane. Eric Lamela and Son Heung-Min look to have settled into the Prem and Toby Alderweireld has stepped up and taken charge at the back.
The Everton game showed they were still getting up to speed, and Liverpool showed that they can grind out results, even when outplayed for most of the game. The result that really stands out is the demolition of Man City, last weekend. The problem is that we have seen this before with Spurs, they look like worldbeaters until it matters, even if they manage to avoid lasagne. They just seem to find a way to throw it all away at the last moment.
Will this season be different? It is far too early to tell to be honest, but they certainly have the quality to push for the title. Will they fade again, or was that just because Pochettino's options were limited? Many in the game believe he pushes his players too hard early in the season, so maybe this season's slow start was needed. They are still Spurs though, so maybe nothing will change.
