After the murmurings surrounding the future of out Spanish Savior David De Gea, I felt covering another Goalkeeper would probably be a good idea, in episode 1, I spoke about Samir Handanovic and in this Article I'm going to be talking about what I believe Manchester United should do if De Gea leaves.

Firstly, I think De Gea is going to leave, everyone expected De Gea to be at United for 4 or 5 years before going on to Madrid or Barcelona, it was always going to happen and it's exactly what has happened. The stumbling block with Real Madrid is that he's a boyhood Athletico fan, however, during his time there he at times was made to train alone and was nearly sold in several occasions to the likes of QPR, Wigan Althetic & Numancia. We also need to remember that De Gea is a professional goalkeeper who will always want what is best for his career, playing for Real Madrid at this current moment is a step up from playing for Manchester United. I don't think many were expecting to fall in love with the Spaniard which is most likely what is causing the resistance and realization that Big Dave will be waving goodbye to Manchester in a couple of months time.

I'm not going to bombard people with statistics, we all know how important De Gea has been to Manchester United over the past 30 or so months.

The plan really should be as follows;

1) Give Victor the jersey, it may sound silly but Victor Valdes is a top quality goalkeeper who has trained and been part of the Old Trafford set up for what will be a year in August and would be an official player for 6 months in a matter of weeks, he's beginning to understand the club, his team mates and how to be a Premier League goalkeeper. The same techniques, which helped transform De Gea, are going to be used with Valdes in training.

2) Sign a young, aspirational goalkeeper, for a low fee that could easily be a solid addition, failing that signing an older head to play back up for a year or two is also a strong possibly. Two that jump to mind would be Neto (although only 25) who has done a good job with Fiorentina over the years. Or more likely, a former goalkeeper under LVG Sampdoria's Sergio Romero - at 28 years old he's a good back up and could become a first team keeper in the future. Both of these keepers are on free transfers as well. Expenditure replacing De Gea needs to be minimal with quality already at the club.

3) If Chelsea's Cech is available for under £15M then I would pursie the Czech international because he is one of the few goalkeepers that are capable of replacing De Gea on a performance level.

4) The money that would be spend on a Lloris, Cech, etc. needs to be invested in the midfield and back 4, a Right Back, 2 central defenders and 2 midfielders (plus a winger and striker) are needed over the next 2 summers for United.

So there we have it, in my opinion Victor Valdes should be starting for Manchester United next season and I fully expect him too.

Let me know who you want as United keeper and why you wouldn't want Valdes. Do you think De Gea will leave?
