Review of the Day

Transfers

Former Liverpool youngster Okera Simmonds has left Blackburn Rovers on a free transfer to join Accrington Stanley on an 18 month deal. There would have to be worries over the 19 year old's lack of confidence after he told the Stanley website: "I think I've got everything in my locker as a striker. I can beat a man, run in behind, hold it up and link up, or drop deep and make things happen." Clearly suffering a crisis there then!

Marouane Fellaini has completed his move to Shandong Luneng from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee of nearly £11m.

Striker Jonte Smith has joined Oxford United for an undisclosed fee from non-league side Lewes.

Sunderland paid £4m for Northern Ireland striker Will Grigg from Wigan Athletic. I wonder how much of that was for the song? Wigan brought in defender Jonas Olsson who had been a free agent after leaving Djurgardens.

Brice Ntambwe has joined Macclesfield Town from Partick Thistle.

Ibrahim Meite has signed for Crawley Town after being released by Cardiff City.

Free agent midfielder Jimmy Keohane has signed for Rochdale after spending a couple of weeks training with them. The 28 year old left Cork City in November.

Defensive pair Molla Wague and Alexander Milosevic have joined Nottingham Forest. Wague, a Mali international joined from Udinese on loan, while Milosevic has signed an 18-month contract as a free agent.

Leandro Damiao has moved to Kawasaki Frontale on a free transfer from Santos.

The so-called Iranian Messi, Sardar Azmoun, has moved to Zenit St Petersburg. Zenit paid over £10m for him from Rubin Kazan. Zenit also paid around £13.5m to sign Colombian midfielder Wilmar Barrios from Boca Juniors.

Vancouver Whitecaps have released Mexican full back Efrain Juarez.

Contracts

Former Middlesbrough striker Cristhian Stuani has signed a contract extension with Girona. The 32 year old is now locked in until 2022.

Teenage Turkish (when they lose) German (when they win) striker Ahmed Kutucu has extended his deal with Schalke 04 to 2022.

West Bromwich Albion pair Wes Hoolahan and Tyrone Mears have extended their deals until the end of the season.

Fallout From James' Failed Move Rumbles On

A Swansea City spokesman has dismissed claims by the agent of midfielder Daniel James that the club "made no attempt to keep the player". A move to Leeds United fell through after Swansea dropped out of negotiations at the last second's of the transfer window, after managing to move on high earners Tom Carroll and Wilfried Bony. The Swans are now keen to convince Welsh international James to sign a new contract to stay with them for the long term. James' agent had told the BBC: "Swansea made no attempt to keep the player and at the first sign of money they couldn't show him the door quickly enough. It is very disappointing but the player is philosophical about it." Swansea themselves said: "The claims from his agent are completely incorrect, and we are extremely disappointed with these comments." James had gone as far as to have a medical with Leeds before the move collapsed over payment terms.

Brum Deny Big Offers For Adams

Birmingham City manager Garry Monk has claimed, despite rumours swirling around, that he was never worried about losing top scorer Che Adams in January because the club received no significant offers for him. Monk said: "There was nothing of any significance for me to be concerned about. Anything on the financial side is for the club to deal with. The only thing to be communicated to me was that the bids which came in were not of the sort of level you'd expect for someone like Che. The club were on the same page, in terms of doing our best to keep our best players. And I was always confident that he would still be here. Now the window is closed, we can all move on."

Rogic Ruled Out

Celtic have lost midfielder Tom Rogic for up to 6 weeks after the Australian picked up a knee injury in the Asian Cup. Manager Brendan Rodgers said: "It is a real blow for us. He's seen a knee specialist in London, but we'll be without him for a while. He came back from the Asia Cup and had an issue with his hand out there and got inured with his knee when he landed awkwardly. He went yesterday to check his hand didn't need an operation and, while he was there, we thought we would have his knee looked at and it showed up a lateral meniscus problem. He won't need the operation on his hand but needs it on his knee. Not what we expected but that's the way football works. It is unfortunate. He is a good character. It is disappointing for us. We have missed him for the period of time he has been out, the last month or so."

Watford Suspend Academy Head

Watford's academy head Darren Sarll has been suspended and an internal investigation launched after he was accused of bullying. Sarll was only appointed in August 2018, after managing Stevenage and then heading up their academy, following his sacking as manager.

Serie B Game Abandoned After 5 Seconds

A head injury to Lecce midfielder Manuel Scavone, just five seconds after kick off, saw a game against Ascoli stopped and then abandoned. Scavone collided in the air with Giacomo Baretta and landed on his head. He regained consciousness before being taken to hospital and kept in over night. In the meantime, the game was called off and is to be rescheduled.
