Football News: Greek team may be forced to withdraw from top flight

Struggling Greek Super League side Niki Volos have been hit with a further setback following financial problems all season.

The cash strapped side have now been ordered to forfeit their next match against Panaitolikos as the club have been unable to find the funds to pay their players.

Following today's general assembly, we have taken the decision not to stage Niki Volos' next match against Panaitolikos," Super League president George Borovilos said in a statement.

"If, however, they manage to pay their players next week the team will be able to play again in the league. There is a withholding money from the team and although cancelling a match in this way is not ideal we are obliged to apply the regulations."

The Thessaly side are bottom of the 16 team division, following promotion last season, and may now be forced to withdraw altogether.
