Football News: Birmingham to give trial to Hylton

Birmingham City's new manager, Gary Rowett, has confirmed recent reports that Redditch United striker Jermaine Hylton will be given a trial at the club.

The 21 year old forward will join the Blues at the club's Wast Hills training ground following a recommendation by Redditch boss, Liam McDonald.

McDonald feels Hylton is capable of playing at a much higher level than the Southern League Premier Division, and now he will get the chance to prove it.

"I spoke to the Redditch manager who has said to me before he thinks Jermaine has got really good potential and is well worth having a look at - and I think he is trying to help the player as well," Rowett said.

"I spoke to Richard (Beale, Blues' development coach) and said 'Let's see if we can perhaps get him in to have a look at him for two or three days'. We have watched him play previously - and recently as well.

"It's a huge jump from that level of football to the Championship but I think it's like anything, if we feel there's someone out there with potential we would like to have a closer look at them if we can.

"Maybe play him in a game if we can, that's got to go hand in hand with doing the right thing for the club he's working hard for at the moment.

"We have got a training game next Monday. Hopefully he will be able to play in that."
