Liverpool's Standards, Leadership and a Line Being Crossed

Liverpool's Standards, Leadership and a Line Being Crossed

Reflection on discipline, loyalty and leadership at Liverpool as frustration boils over. From costly moments on the pitch to doubts over direction at boardroom level, this is a call for accountability and a plea to protect the club's identity as the season reaches a critical point.

Downing Tools and the Line That Should Never Be Crossed

I am old school coming up to 68 in a week or two and I have never agreed with players downing tools to get a manager the sack. I do not agree with what I am seeing from the current Liverpool squad either. When it gets to that stage, something has gone badly wrong above and below. The likes of Edwards should have seen the warning signs and acted before it reached this point.

Moments That Felt Deliberate

The Virgil van Dijk handball against Nottingham Forest looked like it was done on purpose to me. A push in the back does not make you throw your hand in the air like that. Konate against Leeds United was just as worrying. A top international defender does not go sliding in inside his own box when the attacker is going nowhere if you simply stand him up. Again, it looked deliberate.

Then there is Bradley, one booking away from a ban, racing across the pitch to fly into a daft tackle. The referee had no option but to book him. Banned for 1 game. That also felt avoidable, even reckless. Add to that the Leeds player breaking through the middle of the park with Jones and Gravenberch in pursuit, both pulling out of the challenge. It all points the same way to me.

Salah, Status and the Risk of a Sour Ending

Mo Salah has had a fantastic time at Liverpool. The club made him the superstar he is today and gave him the platform to show his gifts to the world. For Mo to come out and suggest the club threw him under the bus tells its own story. To me, it feels like he may have stayed a season too many. It might be the right time to move on before anything sours his reputation with the supporters.

Slot, Edwards and a Call for Change

Arne Slot looks like a man who has run out of ideas. He has tried to turn us into something we are not. Mr Edwards should have seen last season that it was not working as results showed, even though we were champions. Slot has lost the confidence of the players, so there is no point prolonging it. The time has come for change, painful as it is to say. I wanted it to work for him, I truly did, but the trigger now needs to be pulled.

This club has always been built on unity, effort and belief in the badge. When that starts to fade, every mistake is magnified and every decision feels heavier. The supporters can accept defeats, but they cannot accept a lack of fight. Whatever happens next, the bond between this club and its supporters must never be taken for granted

Merry Christmas to all. Let us hope for a better New Year and peace around the world. YNWA.
