Football News: Rico extends Bilbao contract

Athletic Bilbao's Mikel Rico has extended his contract with the Basque side.

The 30 year old defensive midfielder joined Athletic in the summer of 2013 for roughly £2m from fellow Spanish side Granada.

He will now be contracted to the New San Mames club until June 2018, at a time when he will surely be considering retirement.

Rico was instrumental in Bilbao's qualification for the Champions League and his performances in that have earned him a 35million Euros release clause.
