Football News: About time! The Football League should have dealt with Birmingham's situation a long time ago

Finally the Football League has woken up and begun to question Carson Yeung's involvement at Birmingham City. It amazes me it has taken them so long, but perhaps they have been rather busy with Leeds United and Massimo Cellino of late. Considering that Yeung's involvement is so long standing, it is hard to understand why it is only now that the League have taken any steps to look into the situation.

Now I understand that it is a complex issue, with the parent company, Birmingham International Holdings Limited, needing to retain the club to keep its stock exchange listing, but I fail to see how that is a problem for the Football League? All they should be worried about is their own rules, rules which clearly would have Yeung failing their fit and proper person test.

So, while it may cause disruption to force a sale, I really don't see what other option the FL has, if they intend to enforce their own rules. Contrast their treatment of Yeung with their treatment of Cellino and you can easily see the difference.

Right now the Birmingham fans are suffering, they have a club in limbo, an owner in prison and it is disrupting the club's on pitch operations due to having had to sell some of their top talents. Yeung right now seems likely to be released on appeal, but what happens if his appeal doesn't work out? They are just left in more limbo. How much longer can this be allowed to happen?
