Everton Tie Marred By Racist Chants, Altidore Shock As He Scores And Much More

1. Racist chants at FA Cup tie
The sad spectre of racism once again reared its ugly head, this time in a fourth round FA Cup tie between League Two Carlisle United and Premier League Everton. Carlisle had won much sympathy in the hearts and minds of people after the town was flooded badly and the football club were forced to play home matches at other stadiums. A lot of that sympathy has been washed away as the fans resorted to racial abuse of Arouna Kone, after he celebrated the opening goal. Carlisle manager Keith Curle was disgusted by the incident and reported it to the 4th official before ordering an announcement over the public address system to ask the fans to stop the chanting. "I spoke to the fourth official. An announcement was made to say it's not tolerated within the boundaries of any football club and not accepted within the stadium," Curle said. "We are investigating a report and will be working with the club to ascertain what happened," a police statement said.

2. Wednesday complete McGeady deal
Sheffield Wednesday have completed the loan signing of Everton winger Aiden McGeady. The 29 year old winger will stay with the Massive until the end of the season. McGeady has struggled to break into the Toffees' side this season, and has moved in order to try and claim a place in Ireland's Euro 2016 squad. McGeady will bring Champions League experience to the Wednesday squad, having played in that competition for both Celtic and Spartak Moscow. The Hillsborough side are currently in 7th place in the Championship and pushing for a play off place.

3. Martinez gets carried away by FA Cup win
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has claimed that the win over lowly Carlisle United shows that the Toffees are heading in the right direction. Despite Martinez's team being in the bottom half of the Premier League, with just one win in 10 games, he believes an easy win against League Two Carlisle shows progress. "We've competed really well in the domestic cups this season," said Martinez. "We had a real disappointment in the semi-final. That is where we wanted to be, but clearly we were not ready yet because we didn't get through. We played a really good Manchester City team and over two legs for the longest spell we were at Wembley. So it is just that little bit more that we need to learn, and we need to get better. But we're on the right path - we want to be very serious about how we progress in cup competitions, and I think (against Carlisle) we displayed that intent and professionalism. In the FA Cup you don't play as a Premier League team or a League Two team. These are very difficult games. Trying to get in the fifth round is not easy, and we did that really well." It is not difficult to see how Martinez managed to lead Wigan Athletic to an FA Cup win and relegation in the same season.

4. Youngster signs first deal
Everton (yes them again!) youngster Nathan Broadhead has signed his first professional contract. The 17 year old has become a regular for the U18s this season, managing to score 9 goals. Broadhead is contracted until 2017, and has been at Everton since he was just 10. "I'm really pleased," Broadhead said. "It's been a long journey, I moved away from home when I was 12 and ever since then I've been trying to kick on, working hard and now I'm here so I couldn't be happier. I was made up when I first found out about the contract. Sean Lundon gave me the call and said I was going to get offered a contract so I was really made up. This season has been good for me. I just need to keep on working hard in training and in the games you'll get your rewards."

5. A collector's item
Former Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore has scored a goal. No, really he has:

6. Swiss international moves to Hamburg
Borussia Monchengladbach's Josip Drmic has joined Hamburg on loan for the remainder of the season. The Swiss striker only joined Gladbach from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, but has struggled so far. With the European Championships coming up in the summer, the 23 year old wanted a move for first team football, to give himself a chance to make the Switzerland squad. "I am happy that the move has gone through," Drmic told the official Hamburg website. "I am hugely motivated and ready for the challenge ahead at HSV. It's nothing new that Hamburg were keen to sign me. This is a new challenge for me. I did not play much at Leverkusen and my time at Gladbach was not what I had been hoping for either. I will get a fair chance at Hamburg. I just want to play again and make an impact."

7. Garde rules out Richards or Lescott move
Remi Garde has dismissed talk of letting Micah Richards or Joleon Lescott leave Aston Villa in this January transfer window. With Villa propping up the Premier League, Garde is looking to strengthen his squad, rather than weaken it. "There is no chance Micah could go now," the Frenchman said. "I've got a small squad and then Micah is a player who will play for the rest of the season, there is no chance I will allow players like that to leave. No chance. [Lescott] the same, they are players I need for the rest of the season, there is no chance to allow any one of them to leave the club."

8. Stoke chase Imbula
Porto midfielder Gianelli Imbula has been made available by his club and Mark Hughes has confirmed that Stoke City are attempting to sign the French star.

9. £100m footballer joins Oxford
Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Zeli Ismail was at one time being acclaimed in newspapers as a future £100m player while a teenager. Now 22, Ismail has struggled to get near the Wolves team and has now headed off to join Oxford United on a month long loan deal. Head coach Michael Appleton said: "He is an exciting young player. I've seen him play a number of times over the years and know what a clever player he can be, and he always causes problems for the opposition." On the outs front, Danny Rose has left Oxford. Rose is a 27 year old midfielder who was in his second spell with the club. Appleton said: "Danny is a fantastic pro and we have been honest with each other. He has struggled for match time since September really, and we both feel that it is best for him to try his luck elsewhere. He leaves with our best wishes."

10. Schalke offer Premier League linked defender a new contract
Joel Matip has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer, with his contract ending then. Now the situation has been made more difficult as Schalke have offered the 24 year old centre back a new contract according to German broadcaster Sport 1. They state that the 6ft 4 Cameroon international has been offered a double money deal to stay with the Ruhr club.
