FA Backs Sterling Over Tattoo

Raheem Sterling has found himself at the centre of a storm after he revealed his new tattoo, that of a gun on his right leg. Anti-gun campaigners had been quoted in a British tabloid as saying he should never play for England again until he gets rid of it. The tabloid in question has been relentless in its attempts to attack the Manchester City forward in recent years and now have jumped on this. Sterling himself says that it has a deeper meaning and is about reminding himself never to touch a gun. The 23 year old lost his father at the age of 2, after he was shot and killed in Kingston, Jamaica. The FA have given Sterling their backing over the tattoo.

Transfer Round Up

Stevenage have stepped in to pick up winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce on a free transfer from Carlisle United.

Defender Will Evans has left Aldershot Town to sign for Chesterfield on a free transfer.

Sheffield United defender Chris Hussey has left the Yorkshire side to sign on a free for Cheltenham Town.

Matt Preston has rejected a new contract offered to him by Swindon Town to sign for Mansfield Town instead. The 23 year old defender had previously played under Mansfield manager David Flitcroft at Swindon.

German winger Steven Skrzybski has stepped up from the German second tier, with Union Berlin, to sign for FC Schalke 04 for over £3m.

Former Man City youngster John Guidetti has been sold by Celta Vigo to CD Alaves for over £3.5m.

Fiorentina have released experienced midfielder Milan Badelj.

Phoenix Appoint Rudan

A-League team Wellington Phoenix have appointed Mark Rudan as their new head coach. The 42 year old has signed a two year contract for a team whose A-League license expires in two years.

Nice Claim Barca Have Marlon Bid

Defender Marlon Santos is currently midway through a 2 year loan to French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice, but they do not expect him to complete his loan. Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere said: "Barcelona have received a €20m offer for Marlon. He is therefore set to leave OGC Nice." Reports in England have linked the defender with West Ham United, though the Nice president did not mention which club had made the bid for the 22 year old.

Dwamena Denies Schalke Talks

FC Zurich's Ghana international striker Raphael Dwamena has dismissed reports that he is in talks with Schalke 04 over a summer transfer. The forward told Happy FM: "My team haven't told me anything yet. I've also read it on the web but my team is yet to tell me anything about it so I will treat it as a rumour but I'm crossing my fingers and it it happened to be true then I believe it'll be the will of God. I can't say it affected my season but normally as a human being it will affect you a little bit but like I believe life without challenges is no life. I've moved on from all that happened last year. By God's grace we've qualified for the Europa League, so I'm looking forward to it."

Competition For Germany Places Heats Up

With Germany yet to trim their squad to the 23 allowed in the World Cup, the battle for places has become extremely testy in their training camp. Bayern Munich defender Joshua Kimmich went head to head with Chelsea centre back Antonio Rudiger as the pair exchanged heated words. Miroslav Klose had to run across and break it up before the pair resorted to blows. PSG's Julian Draxler also took an elbow to the face from Man City winger Leroy Sane.

Lazio Confirm Rejected Milinkovic-Savic Offer

With star midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic being linked with both Manchester clubs, Real Madrid and Juventus, Lazio president Claudio Lotito has issued what amounts to a hands off warning. Lotito told reporters: "I turned down €110m for Milinkovic-Savic on August 29, so I don't know how much he is worth now, but I can tell you €100m isn't enough. I get angry when I read people call Lazio a supermarket. I've never put anyone up for sale. In the past they wouldn't even knock on the door, clubs would just come and take, but now they have to ask for permission."
