Review of the Day
Transfers
Vegan side Forest Green Rovers have signed yet another player, spending an undisclosed fee to add Exeter City midfielder Lloyd James.
Adam Collin has re-signed for Carlisle United after 5 years away from the Cumbrians. The 33 year old goalkeeper was released by Notts County at the end of last season.
Another free agent to find a new team was Hope Akpan. The 26 year old midfielder was released by Burton Albion and has now joined fellow League One club Bradford City.
After taking time out of football to deal with mental health and addiction issues Harry Smith has signed for Macclesfield Town of League Two. The forward was released by Millwall.
Notts County have paid an undisclosed 'six-figure' fee for midfielder Enzio Boldewijn from fellow League Two side Crawley Town.
Brad Inman has left Peterborough United by mutual consent, following a broken leg in pre-season, just after signing for the Posh from Crewe Alexandra, left him struggling to get first team football. After just 12 appearances in 2 season, Peterborough let him leave to sign on a free for Rochdale.
Pablo Hernandez has left Spanish football after Argentine Primera Division side Independiente paid Celta Vigo just over £1m for the 31 year old midfielder.
Former Tottenham Hotspur loanee goalkeeper Pau Lopez has moved to Real Betis on a free transfer from Espanyol.
Spanish midfielder Mikel Vesga has joined CD Leganes on loan from Athletic Bilbao.
Diego Falcinelli and Federico Di Francesco have swapped clubs in a move valued at £9m. Falcinelli has left Sassuolo to join Bologna, while Di Francesco has moved the opposite way.
Casimir Ninga (please tell me it is pronounced like Ninja!) is swapping Montpellier for Caen in a £1.8m move.
Watford have signed midfielder Ken Sema from Ostersund.
Sevilla have spent over £5m to recruit Czech keeper Tomas Vaclik from FC Basel.
Veteran keeper Silvio Proto has joined Lazio on a free transfer from Olympiacos.
Torino have paid £7m+ for centre back Armando Izzo from Genoa.
Thistle Get Lottery Win Boost
After Partick Thistle supporter Colin Wear won £161m on the Euromillions lottery in 2011 he decided to help his favourite team out. In 2013 he contributed £750,000 to fund the creation of a youth academy for the Scottish club. In 2016 he handed them a further £500,000 and now he has donated another £600,000. The academy is open to both boys and girls and has already provided a number of players for the first team. Colin Weir said: "I have been impressed with what the academy has achieved in five years. Players are coming through to the first team and it's great to see us really starting to grow our own. This money will help that to continue at pace and perhaps see money come back to the club as players move on. I hear regularly what's happening at the academy and this donation should signal that I continue to be impressed with what's being achieved, at all levels."
New Deal For Hennessey
Welsh international goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has signed a new 3 year deal with Crystal Palace. Hennessey established himself as first choice at Palace after Roy Hodgson took charge, but will face a new challenge for the spot from Spanish keeper Vincente Guaita, who has arrived from Getafe.
Dawson Up The Creek
West Bromwich Albion manager Darren Moore is facing disappointment in his attempts to keep defender Craig Dawson at the club. The 28 year old had refused to go on the club's pre-season training trip to Portugal last week and has now handed in a written transfer request. With Albion's relegation to the Championship, which Dawson had a large part in as a key member of the team, Dawson is trying to force his way out amid interest from Premier League clubs.
Rangers' King To Face Contempt Proceedings
The chairman of SPFL side Rangers, Dave King, is facing more court problems in Scotland, with the Takeover Panel saying: "The executive went on to refer to an email of the previous day in which it had stated its intention to initiate contempt proceedings were Mr King to fail to procure the publication of an offer in accordance with the code within the time stipulated. It stated that, in the circumstances, it would initiate contempt proceedings in the Court of Session on 27 April 2018 if, by midnight on 26 April 2018, Mr King had failed to publish a code compliant offer. In the event, process in the contempt proceedings appears to have been served on Mr King in South Africa on 8 June 2018."
Real Madrid Release Another Denial Over Transfers
Real Madrid have released their second denial in two days over newspaper stories claiming they had agreed a big money move for a Paris Saint-Germain player. Previously it was Neymar they were said to have made a huge bid for, now it is Kylian Mbappe they are reported to have tried to sign. The Champions League winners released a statement which read: "Real Madrid has not made any offers to PSG or the player and regrets the dissemination of this type of information. Given the information published in the last hours referring to an alleged agreement between Real Madrid CF and PSG for player Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid says they are flatly false." Hard to know what the truth is these days, newspaper reports are so full of made up nonsense that they can no longer be trusted to report news but Real Madrid have a long track record of denials followed a few days later by the player signing for them!
Barca Deny Illegal Liver Trafficking
Despite the Catalan Justice Department confirming that the case was closed without charge earlier this year, Barcelona have still been forced to deny claims that former club president Sandro Rosell illegally purchased a liver for then-Barca defender and now technical secretary of the club, Eric Abidal. Rosell, who has been arrested for money-laundering, was claimed to have purchased the organ after Abidal was found to have a tumour in his liver in 2012. Barca "roundly deny any irregularity in the matter". The Hospital Clinic de Barcelona, where the operation took place, and Abidal himself have also denied the allegations. Abidal has admitted his "annoyance and sadness" over the claims saying: "My cousin Gerard donated his liver to save my life and for this I am truly grateful to him. Existing procedures and protocols were followed at all times and all the medical documentation that proves so is available." Spain's national transplant organisation have confirmed that their own investigation showed that the donation and transplant "was in accordance with current legislation and common clinical protocols".
Madrid Consider Ronaldo Bid
Real Madrid are thinking over an offer for Cristiano Ronaldo from Italian champions Juventus. Juve are believed to have offered around 100m euros (roughly £88m) for the 33 year old Portugese superstar. Ronaldo has, as usual, admitted he is unhappy at Madrid and is considering his options, but he is unlikely to get the usual public ego-stroking from the club desperate to keep him. His enormous wages have previously meant any move is unlikely to happen, there is little chance that Juve could match his current pay packet, which is a number of times more than their current highest earner, Gonzalo Higuain.
