Review of the Day

Transfers

Burnley have signed Middlesbrough club captain (and nephew of the chairman) Ben Gibson for a fee of around £15m. That is roughly equal to the club record fee paid for striker Chris Wood from Leeds United last summer. They are also closing in on Joe Hart from Manchester City.

Algerian international winger Rachid Ghezzal has joined Leicester City from AS Monaco for a fee of over £12m. Ghezzal is a replacement for Riyad Mahrez.

Spanish forward Raul Asencio has left Genoa on loan for Benevento.

Young Ghana right back Moussa Wague has been sold by KAS Eupen of the Belgian Jupiler League to join Barcelona for about £4.5m.

Former Arsenal defender Ignasi Miquel has left Malaga to join Getafe for a £4.5m fee.

Brighton & Hove Albion have sent young Ecuadorian winger Billy Arce on loan to Extramadura of the Spanish La Liga 2, only a day after signing him. Former Spanish international winger Diego Capel has found a new club, following his summer release from Anderlecht in the summer. The 30 year old has also joined Extramadura.

Verona have signed Juventus midfielder Luca Marrone on loan.

Bordeaux have signed their replacement for Malcom in the form of a young Nigerian hot prospect forward, Samuel Kalu from KAA Gent.

Cherries Agree Lerma Fee

Bournemouth have agreed a fee to sign Colombian international Jefferson Lerma from Levante in La Liga. The 23 year old was part of the Colombia World Cup team during the summer and looks set to be the third arrival on the south coast this summer. Howe has rued the shorter transfer window this summer, added to the World Cup, making recruitment difficult this season. Howe said: "The summer transfer window has been tough, I will say that; it has been difficult with the World Cup and the window shutting earlier. It's been different from last year, and we've found it harder to bring the players in we want. I'd like to think that once the window closes that will be us very secure, and then have the squad to work with until January."

Berahino Cleared For Burundi

Former England U21 international Saido 'Missing For The Last 3 Years' Berahino has been cleared to play for the country of his birth, Burundi, now that his abysmal lack of effort and ability has ruled him out of contention to play for England. Sadly Burundi do not have the strength in depth to leave him to rot as he deserves, in Stoke City's reserves.

Ba Subjected To Racial Abuse

Former Chelsea and Newcastle United striker Demba Ba has been the victim of racial abuse in a Chinese Super League match, according to his Shanghai Shenhua manager Wu Jingui. Senegalese forward Ba was involved in an angry dispute with a player from Changchun Yatai, when the two sides played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday. Wu Jingui said: "I learned that a Yatai player used insulting language toward him [Ba]. Around the world, it has been stressed that there should be no insulting speech toward black athletes. The Chinese Super League has players of many different skin colours. We should respect our opponents and there should be no discrimination."

Maldini Gets New Milan Role

"Living legend" Paolo Maldini has been appointed director of strategic development by AC Milan. The 50 year old made 902 appearances for Milan in a career spent entirely at Serie A giants. AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni said: "There are no words to describe what Paolo Maldini represents for Milan. It was a privilege to see him play and win countless trophies in the field. I am happy and honoured to work with him in his new role."
