Football News: Aston Villa once again being marketed, Red Bull linked?

Aston Villa's turmoil on the pitch is well known, the last few seasons have been nothing but a struggle against relegation under Paul Lambert.

Even this season's early promise has faded, with new assistant manager Roy Keane of the magnificent beard, losing first his beard, then walking away from the job as the team tumbles back down the table.

Off the pitch, Randy Lerner has been trying to sell Villa for a number of years now, as his initial enthusiasm for the club has petered out following the squandering of his financial backing on players that failed to work out.

Now though, with European football out of reach, Lambert's job looking more and more tenous despite the new contract he was awarded early in the season, and the financial implications of relegation possibly looming, there have been renewed efforts to sell.

There have been lots of rumours of Red Bull looking to buy an English league club, with media reports often linking them to Leeds United of the Championship.

Those reports are erroneous though, Massimo Cellino is not looking to sell his majority share of the club and only GFH's 25% share is up for grabs, which is not of any interest to Red Bull, who were after a Premier League club anyway.

Red Bull were certainly interested in purchasing the Birmingham-based club from the start, so could now be the time for a deal to be done?
