King Avoids Having To Buyout Rangers Shares
After being forced to make an offer of 20p per share outside of his control, Rangers chairman Dave King will be breathing a sigh of relief today after too few shareholders accepted the offer to trigger a takeover.
Hoban Out For Season
Watford defender Tommie Hoban, who is on a season-long loan at Aberdeen, has suffered a season-ending injury. The 25 year old has picked up the second cruciate ligament injury of his career.
Health Certificate Causes 9 Point Deduction
After Nigerian international goalkeeper Francis Uzoho made his debut for Anorthosis Famagusta, on loan from Deportivo La Coruna, the opponents that day, Apollon Limassol claimed he could not have a valid health certificate. Apollon pointed out that the office where the certificates were obtained were shut when Uzoho arrived in Cyprus and had not opened between his arrival and the game taking place. The Cyprus Football Association agreed with Apollon and overturned the 1-0 result to Anorthosis, instead awarding the 3 points to Apollon, and deducted a further 6 points from Anorthosis, as well as handing Uzoho a 1 match ban and 1,000 euros fine. Apollon have requested that their final league game be postponed pending an appeal hearing.
Kane Close To Return
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane's return from his latest ankle injury seems set to take place this weekend versus Burnley. The England forward had expected to be out until March after suffering the injury against Manchester United on 13th January, but is once again looking like returning earlier than expected.
Spanish Super Cup To Move Abroad
The Supercopa de Espana is set to become a 4-team tournament played abroad, no doubt as a way round the block against playing a La Liga fixture in the USA. This season's version was a one-off game played in Morocco and contest by Barcelona and Sevilla. Before that it was a two-legged tie played home and away in Spain.
Neymar Gets Even More Tiresome And Whiny
Brazil striker Neymar Jr's latest whine about his metatarsal injury is that he spent two days crying about it. Sigh. Neymar said: "This time I had a tough time getting over it. I spent two days at home crying. The first time I hurt myself I said, 'I'll have an operation, it has to be fixed as quickly as possible'. I wasn't sad." Unfortunately he lied about that last part. He is extremely sad. And pathetic. And whiny. And annoying.
Khedira Ruled Out With Heart Problem
Juventus's German midfielder Sami Khedira has been sidelined after he was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat. The 31 year old's season (career in fact) has been disrupted by injuries and now he faces treatment for atrial arrhythmia. A Juve statement read: "Sami Khedira remained in Turin for medical examinations, from which emerged the opportunity to perform an electrophysiological study and eventual treatment of an atrial arrhythmia which appeared today [Tuesday]."
