Football News: Goetze's World Cup winning boot raises £1.6 million for kids' charity.

The left boot Mario Goetze used when he scored the extra-time winning goal against Italy at the 2014 World Cup final has been sold at a charity auction in Berlin. Ein Herz fuer Kinder (A Heart for Children) is now 2 million Euros (£1.6 million) better off after an anonymous buyer snapped up the boot during the annual charity gala shown live on German TV.

The charity's treasurer Niko Knochenhauer described the amount raised as 'overwhelming' and 'unimaginable,' as bids began to flood in and broke the million Euros barrier.

Germany coach Joachim Loew later said the shoe, which Goetze said he has never cleaned since the final and that it still had grass on it, will be exhibited next year at the new German Football Museum in Dortmund.

If a worn boot of Goetze's is worth £1.6 million what price will Manchester United be quoted if they try to prise the German star away from Bayern Munich as has been reported elsewhere?
