Christensen Expects To Stay At Chelsea

Chelsea are currently trying to fight a registration embargo placed on them by UEFA, but their Danish defender Andreas Christensen has revealed that he expects to stay because of it. Christensen has said in interviews a number of times that he is unhappy over his lack of playing time recently, but he has now spoken to 'Ekstra Bladet' to explain that he is set to stay at Chelsea for next season. Christensen said: "What we have been told is that Chelsea cannot appeal the case and therefore want to keep all the players."

Bobby Set To Leave Liverpool

Netherlands youth international Bobby Adekanye is set to leave Liverpool in the summer, despite the offer of a new contract. Adekanye told Voetbalzone: "Unfortunately, it didn't turn out that way. That's how this works in the football world, I have to accept things like that. I can't say I'm sorry. I've learned a lot, I'm going to take all the lessons with me on my next step. I don't see any real planning behind it, so it's pointless for me to stay. I was expecting to get a chance at Liverpool earlier. In the end, that didn't happen. This is a pity and has helped me not to renew my contract. If they promise things like that and it doesn't happen anyway, I don't know what will happen if I sign for three years. The trust is no longer in place, even though I still respect the club very much. They don't just extend contracts for three years, so maybe there's a timetable behind it. But I don't trust that anymore. Three years is a lot, I'm not just going to sign for a period like that if there's no planning or perspective. It's good in terms of money, but it's no use if there's no perspective behind it. Money will come later, I need game minutes now." Adekanye also confirmed interest from Lazio: "It's one of the clubs interested, but it hasn't been decided 100 percent yet. I've also heard something about Barcelona, and Willem II in the Netherlands. I can't list the full set of clubs now because they may change tomorrow. There is interest from the Netherlands, Italy and Spain, among others. I think I'm ready to play somewhere in a first team. That's going to be a big step, because I haven't played professional football yet."

Omeruo Keen On Leganes Stay

Chelsea's on-loan defender Kenneth Omeruo is looking to make his loan move to Leganes a permanent deal. Leganes is his 7th loan move since joining Chelsea in 2012. Omeruo said: "The football here suits my style and the club provides a stable platform for me. The opportunity to play against the best players in the world is massive for my career. There is an option for Leganes to sign me on a permanent basis and hopefully that will happen. The Chelsea management have never stopped me from making important career decisions and they've been very supportive. It will be a decision between both clubs, but personally I hope I'll be a Leganes player for next season and beyond. I deserve stability in my career as a footballer. Leganes and Spanish football provides me with the continuity and right environment for career growth. After enduring instability with different loan moves, it's time to finally settle down with my young family. Leganes fans and club officials have been awesome to my family which has helped me mentally and physically. It has also helped me with the national team and to connect with fans back home because La Liga is on television in Nigeria. I'd love to stay at this football club and hopefully that will happen."

Shrimpers Sack Powell

League One side Southend United have sacked Chris Powell. The 49 year old former Southend left-back took charge at Roots Hall in January 2018. They finished 10th last season and were in 10th this January before a run of poor results saw them slide down the table and put them into the relegation battle, after just 4 points from 11 league matches. Academy head Ricky Duncan has been given the caretaker role.

Pogrebnyak Fined For Comments About Black Players

Former Reading and Fulham striker Pavel Pogrebnyaksaid last week in an interview: "I don't see the point of this. I do not understand at all why Ari received a Russian passport. It is laughable when a black player represents the Russian national side. Mario Fernandes is a top player. But we also have Igor Smolnikov in his position. We could make do without foreigners as well." Pogrebnyak later apologised and has accepted his £2,950 fine and suspended ban the Russian Football Union have handed him.

Gomez Back In Training

Liverpool's England defender Joe Gomez is back in training after 3 months out with a broken leg suffered at Burnley in the Premier League. With Liverpool just on top of the Premier League and challenging in the Champions League, the return of a player who had begun to make the centre back position next to Virgil van Dijk his own will be a big boost. England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also closing in on a return to the first team following his cruciate ligament injury last season.

French League President Under Fire Over Homophobia Comments

The president of France's Ligue de Football Professionel (LFP) Nathalie Boy de la Tour is facing a storm after suggesting homophobia was a part of the culture of football. Boy de la Tour said in an interview with Le Parisien: "What you hear in a stadium, you won't hear it outside when you go shopping. In the stadium it's not acceptable as such but it's part of the folklore. I'm not making excuses. But when you talk about homophobic chants, for a lot of supporters, it's part of the folklore." This was a response to France's sports minister Roxana Maracineanu's proposal to do more to ban homophobic chants within stadiums after she was shocked by the chants she heard while attending Paris Saint-Germain v Marseille this month, a game notorious for the nasty feeling between fans. Maracineanu said after the game: "There was latent racism in one specific chant, and essentially there were chants with a homophobic connotation." France is in the middle of a number of high profile incidents involving homophobia, including Patrice Evra being accused of calling PSG players "faggots" on social media after they lost to Manchester United and, in rugby, Biarritz president Jean-Baptiste Aldige being targeted in a homophobic video posted on social media over the weekend.
