Football News: Newcastle in search for keeper
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has begun a search for keeper cover following an injury to back up keeper Rob Elliot in the victory over Chelsea at the weekend.
Elliot was already labouring with a thigh injury when first choice Tim Krul suffered an ankle injury ruling him out, so Elliot was forced to play through the pain.
"I had a grade one thigh strain," said Elliot. "I had it just before Tim before injured.
"Unfortunately, Tim got injured and I had to play with a thigh strain. It was only a matter of time before it went. It's one of those things unfortunately.
"But it was a fantastic result for us - it just shows the strength in depth we've got."
21 year old Jak Alnwick came off the bench at half time to replace Elliot and gave a performance which ensured Pardew has said he will keep his place for the next match with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
While the Toon await the results of Elliot's scan, they have already begun preparations for the loss of Elliot, with ex-Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes already having been approached to see if he would be interested in a short term deal.
