Football News: Koeman admits to Depay failure

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has revealed that he failed in a summer transfer window attempt to sign PSV Eindhoven speedster Memphis Depay.

Speaking ahead of tonight's game at home to Manchester United, Koeman explained that Depay rejected the chance to make the move to the Premier League.

"We informed our interest to his agent," Ronald Koeman told reporters. "With his style he would fit well in England.

"Memphis is fast, focused and physically strong. Southampton would have been an excellent springboard for him to the very top of the Premier League.

"Here he would have had time to get used to the level and would have had two Dutch coaches who have great confidence in him, but he chose to stay at PSV. A big shame for us, but also for him."
